Tow service from the playa?

Just in case the car doesnt start, has anyone been towed off the playa? I have AAA premier membership, 200free miles, then 100free the next day. Do tow trucks drive to the playa?

Call AAA and ask them. They are very helpful.

I've heard they do. Most cars start after the week of sitting unless the battery has been used to power crap all week.

this would be a VW we are talking about.... Yes I should call AAA, but I have a feeling it would be like asking a rental center if they have 4x4s and getting the "yes we have SUVs"

I will call them tomorrow and find out what they don't tow out of.

Which reminds me ... when the body rusts off that old Toyota pickup, I want to put a fiberglass body on it shaped like a large toe. Then I want to pull up to people stuck on the side of the road and ask ... "Need a toe truck?"

Really, that has always been one of my life's ambitions. I am easily amused.

There is a steady stream of tow trucks entering the playa during exodus. I have seen the AAA logo on most if not all of them, be sure to bring your card.

Yeah, check on that. I didn't think they towed "off road", which BRC is.

There is a VW Camp, with mechanics and aficionados all together in one spot.
AAA comes out of Reno, it ain't cheap.
Maybe try starting the engine a couple of times during the week....

There's a difference between the 'free' tow service and towing. :-> Call your AAA and ask what they can tell you about their coverage on the playa during Burning Man. It may not be free, but you absolutely can get towed. Because of all the towage going on, you may have to wait.

LOL!! My VW died in the Exodus line last year - a tow truck passed by so we flagged him down, he was otherwise engaged, but said they do come out there. Problem is getting a cell signal to call them

(or you could hitch a ride into town, I suppose, and maybe meet the tow truck there) I finally got through to my insurance company by doing the cell phone dance, then promptly lost them

My trouble turned out to be dust in the alternator, a guy offered to give us a jump, but it didn't work and battery wouldn't charge - a handy fellow tapped the alternator three times with a hammer and it started right up.

Actually that isn't Ed Lincoln's original "Toe Truck" that you saw at Fairview & Mercer forever, that's the newer version built a few years ago. The original has much better shape to it and would probably easily get a Mutant Vehicle license!
