Tuff R hexaurts and ligthning
Tuff R hexaurts and ligthning
I know it has been a number of years since there has been major rain or lightning durning Burning man but it is certainly a possibility.
I wonder if all those aluminum covered hexayurts will attract lightning durning a storm?
Should we be installing lightning rods? I really don't want to be fried in my sleep.
Anybody have any advice or experience camping in the tuff r hexayurt during a lightning storm?
Thanks.

Will your hexayurt be shorter then 5'9"?
Is it likely people will be around outside?
Did you know the average height of american dudes over 20 is 5'9.5"?
Did the education system fail to teach you that part about least resistance in grade school?
Do you like your sarcastic answers in list question form?

I was going to make a Tuff-R Hexayurt but it dawned on me that Burning Man has fire. So I thought I'd see what happens.Craftsmn wrote:Anybody have any advice or experience camping in the tuff r hexayurt during a lightning storm?

It thankfully does not seem to maintain a flame, but I'm betting in wind it would. If it were struck by lightning, I'd think the aluminum would pop like a fuse and it would catch on fire. Not that you'd be any better off in a nylon tent with fiberglass shock cords.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,
