I love that song.

I think I love every Talking Heads song to one degree or another.

gobbledigook by Sigor Rios

The video has naked people running around the woods and at one point there is a fire, so that works.

Not safe for work.

Played on a huge movie screen by the camp next to us in 2003, but to a much better video of a Dutch kids show. I've haven't been able to find that version, sadly. This is definitely the song that brings my brain back to the playa.

"Welcome to the Pleasuredome" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The long version with the poem at the begining that talks about returning to the dust. Couldn't find a utube with the poem on it.

During my first Burn, we had the glam clam karaoke in front of our camp. I'll never forget the big eye'd grinning e-tard that stood transfixed before us as my sister and I sang Rainbow Connection. So for this reason that song always reminds me of the playa.

Right now, for me it's got to be David Bowie's "Miracle Goodnight":

The lyrics begin with:

"Burning up each others' love, burning up our lives
Tried all kinds of working out, miracle goodnight
Future full and empty knocking on my door
. . . "

They're all here at:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Someone fired it up during the burn in 2007 which was an incredibly special year for me out there. I loved the song before that Burn Night, but after that, it has taken on even more meaning for me.

REM's You Are the Everything, also from 2007. It came up on my mp3 player on the way out just as I was making the turn onto the pavement. I don't exactly know what it was about the song that burned itself into my memory, but its there for good now.

I got quite a few people singing this song while waiting for the man to burn in 08. Now every time I hear it that is all I think of.
Wow, that really made my day. Thanks!

No idea what camp was playing this song, but it was the last song of the night and they cut it off before the end. My memory is fuzzy, but my friends tell me that I went back and demanded they play the whole song. And they did! Thanks whatever camp DJ that was.

There are so many!

My main squeeze is definitely "Good Morning, Starshine".

I enjoy singing it to folks in the morning... particularly through a megaphone. ;)

Others:

The New Vaudeville Band

Parliament - Chocolate City

Donovan

The Sonics

Mr. Bungle

This kind of cheesy + purdy sounding guy... Brett Dennen or something... that sings a nice song about the sun rising on the desert. Listened to it while driving up to Burning Man, at sunrise, my first year. Shortly after that was "Mahna Mahna!"!

Yeahh, Muppets!

OH! And every time I hear the song "The Circle of Life" I'll be brought back to sunrise at the temple, morning after the burn last year. Some lions, elephants, etc. were blaring it as they interpretively danced... <3

The camp right behind us in 2006 would play You're Scaring Us by the Kinsey Sicks every morning. It was somewhat hilarious.

Dont you forget about me - Simple minds

Not too sure why this song in particular but it somehow conjures up some memories on the playa. A little blast from the past!

Perhaps because burningman is really just detention writ large.

"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
Come inside! Come inside!"

Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Karn Evil 9. I was part of a camp that built a roller coaster and hauled it to the playa from Detroit. Some of our neighbors did a little video about there time on playa and they included that song as the background when they showed shots of the roaster coaster in action. It was very appropriate.

Others that are "Burning Man" songs in my mind:

Abba's Dancing Queen

Of course, Johnny Cash's Burning Ring of Fire

Eagle's Tequila Sunrise

The Cramps Bikini Girls with Machine Guns

I can't believe no one's named this song yet.

I may be crazy but at least I'm not sane.
