renting porta potty 2010

Post by zasture » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:04 pm

Does anyone know if you absolutely have to drive to Sparks for a porta potty rental? We are having problems figuring out towing. Is it possible to rent them from the service provider at the burn?

Yes, but arrange it now. I beleive they are called United Site Services, but since it's not as pithy as JotS, I can't be sure. There is another thread on this in this forum, so look over the last couple of pages (of thread titles) for more information.

You don't HAVE to drive to Sparks. You can get a rental from United Services who also service the event pots but they are more expensive. They will deliver to your camp but it will arrive the week before so you better have someone there when it arrives. The problem with renting a pot in Sparks is that you are not likely going to find anyone to service it during the event. The rental folks (I can't remember their name off the top of my head) claim to have someone at the event but we have never in several years been able to locate them. United will not service a competitor's pot. So your private rental pot is likely to smell worse than the public pots by the end of the week depending on how many people are using it.

What I would recommend is this:

Use the public pots until about Wednesday if they are nearby. They are generally clean and don't get bad until after Wednesday. THEN start using your private pot. This will conserve your private pot so it isn't so aromatic toward the end of the event but you can use it when the public pots start to get bad. It also removes some of the load from the public pots when they could use some relief.

United costs much more but they will pick up/deliver and service during the event. Off site rentals are cheaper but you aren't likely to actually find anyone to service them and you have to transport both ways.

Also, United also provides gray water tanks that they will deliver before and pick up after the event. You really need to have an early entrant there to coordinate all that stuff and make sure it gets placed properly and doesn't get abused before you arrive.

Ok, it was SaniHut. We haven't had a problem with them, per se, just that we have never been able to find them on the playa to get the pots serviced. We are generally out there for more than just the week of the event as we have people working for the org pre-event so by event week, it is already fairly well used and really needs a pump. United is more expensive but you can arrange to get it cleaned on a regular basis.

Actually, I heard from one of my camp mates (I didn't go last year) who said that last year, United wasn't really more expensive when we considered the bribe we paid to get the SaniHut pot serviced. We had used SaniHut for three years and United last year. We are probably going to stick with United.

Yes, I agree- when you consider the hassle of driving to Sparks from Portland, I like United much more.
Sparks is ~$250 for 2 on a trailer

United $500 for 1 delivered to camp, picked up from camp, and includes a end of the week pump.

And they take orders up to Aug 20th.

(I just called them)

includes a end of the week pump.
You can arrange for more frequent pumpings, too. They have no problems servicing their own pots so if someone pukes in the urinal, you can generally flag down a United truck to help you out.

Looks sorta like the DPW shower trailer.

I was thinking it kind of looked like United's shower trailer too, although the cabinetry wasn't as nice. LOL!

It's a combo lock that uses letters instead of numbers. :)

And they're made so you can't form a dirty word as your combo. We tried and tried. Boo!

So how many four letter words can you form? Aren't you afraid that that will simply limit the options for an enterprising theif?
