Mixers?

Post by bluesbob » Mon Aug 02, 2010 2:09 pm

I was going to bring some mixers. But, what is a mixer? Orange juice? Cranberry juice? Tonic water? What does everyone use?

I bring pretty general mixers, basically the ones on your list. They're solid stand-bys, anybody can pour a drink with them, and most people will drink any of those (I'm not a fan of tonic, but when it's gifted to me as my drink, I drink it)

Anyone wanting fancy mixers can bring their own.

7-up or Sprite (generic is fine!) is a really good standby, especially for those who don't like tonic, goes with vodka or whiskey. Some diet mixers are nice for those of us watching waistlines, like me - club soda is my preferred mixer and can be combined with juice or other mixers if people want something sweeter. A big jug of sweet tea is also nice for something different.

Arizona teas make their "Arnold Palmer" in powdered form - it is awesome with vodka, and extremely packable :)

People who run bars ask Louise and me to bring mixers. The requested mixers are 'soda and fruit juice.' We bring pineapple juice, coconut milk, and softdrinks in addition to the other items mentioned already.

Look at a bartender's mixology book and bring the stuff that's mentioned most often. I'm sure there's a need for angostura bitters, but I'm betting more juices are used more often. And maybe a bottle of cherries.

I like Squirt and that Italian blood orange soda that both Safeway and Trader Joe's carry. The blood orange soda is in glass bottles, though.

Squirt and tonic water are my favorite mixers on the playa.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't drink, but I thought I would bring some along for everyone.

A Bring what you like to drink, as everyone will bring what they like to drink.

May I suggest avoiding un-fresh citrus such as Pink Lemonaide and instead go with Real Limes Fresh Squozen when you need them. Good Way to avoid Scurvy

Tripple Sec goes with most booze, and Limes, and together with Good Tequila, you get a Margarita...

2 parts Tequila
1 parts Lime
1 parts Tripple Sec / or Grand Marnier

I make a variation of a rusty nail. Instead of Drambuie and scotch, I use Glayva and Jameson.
