Hey springbar ppl

So I got my springbar compact and it looks awesome! It seems like it cant be pitched if you can't anchor down the corners though. I have the 12" stakes that it came with, but will these stick in the playa? I'm worried since it only has standing supports in the middle, that it will get blown right over. Will it be ok with the stakes it comes with?

I've never seen the stakes it comes with but, Doubtful.

Go to home depot and spend the 5-7 bucks for the long 10" or 12" nails, and the big washers that they fit in.

I don't think any tent is OK with the stakes it comes with. I suggest getting longer, thicker stakes that still fit through the stake holes in the tent. I've used a springbar out there one year (last year), and we used our own playa stakes instead of the ones that came with it (I don't even remember what they looked like).

The stakes it comes with are crap for the playa. Use rebar. I have had good luck with the large plastic "super stakes" from Home Depot, too.

I used the stakes it came with, got the larger aluminum stakes. Drove them into the playa and they bent all to hell.

Military surplus stakes, 12" if you can find them, work well too.

The "premium" stakes for the springbar are almost identical to the military stakes in design. But at least when I was in the military the stakes were steel, the springbar stakes are aluminum and bend.

You can get all sorts of premade rebar at the Army/Navy store in Mountain View and at South Bay Canopy in San Jose.

Yes, these are Aluminum, but I haven't bent them (yet).

The military stakes even worked well in the sandy mushy ground at Element 11.

Rebar candy canes or "L"s work, but I have decided good stakes work better.

Steve, those stakes were the ones I had but they bent all to hell. Maybe it was because I used the lite-brite rebar driver to put em in instead of a hammer or maybe it was just the nature of the playa at my specific location. That was in 2008 at our camp that was oh, I dunno, something like 4:45 and A right behind KSVERT.

Its back to 16" Super Stakes for me:

Maybe it is the difference between the military ones I use and the ones from Springbar? They look very similar?

I camped with Iron Rose in 2006 and had no problems with my stakes! And none since. But it does help to put in stakes at all (or most) of the loops. Reduces the strain.

Kinda sucks theres no good way to pitch this tent without stakes. For urban dwellers with no grass anywhere, theres no place test the damn thing out =[

Those are the ones I have a big gash on my foot from - nasty evil things with sharp edges, more so if they've been hammered in with a sledge more than once.

I just saw you said "Springbar Compact" - that's the smaller one, and 9" military stakes like these should work fine:

The big Home Depot nails work well too; put 'em in at an angle (down toward the middle of the tent).
