Everythings Hotter in Cali!

Post by Spade » Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:48 pm

Hi everyone, Im pretty new to this, so bare with me! My name is Spade, Im 20 years young, and I cant wait to be out on the Playa for the first time this year with all of you! Ive been trying to go for the last 3 years or so, but something always kept getting in my way! Im very anxious for this experience, and indeed more anxious to meet all kinds of amazing people, and hopefully making some good connections out in the dust and heat, and making some lifelong friends. I love all sorts of things, art and music among my favorites. I am an artist as well, and since my Fiancee' Derek died in April of a drowning accident, things have gone downhill. I got assaulted shortly after he died, about 10 days, and in California, both parties of an altercation go to jail. I work with children 6 weeks-5 years at Sierra Army Depot, and because I went to jail, even though it was only for 4 days, and even though I was released on OR, I was still laid off from my job because it was a breach of security because I work with Children. I have had time waived on my case for 3 months now, and until my court clears, I am unable to return to work. Also, my car blew up about 3 weeks ago. I live an hour from the nearest WalMart, all we have in my town is one shell station, so without my car Im pretty much stranded. Ive been having a really tough time the last couple months, and my whole life has started crumbling beyond my control, but before any of this happened, I was lucky enough to recieve a scholarship ticket from our wonderful Burning Man Staff. The end of the summer, in the wonderous Black Rock City is where I hope to leave all my troubles behind, and start to live again. Ive been very depressed the last few months, and though Im staying positive, Its been difficult to find any inspiration in anything. I get out my graphite pencils, and paper to draw, but I find myself staring at a blank page for hours. I need this part of me back, and I hope to find it out in the Desert with all of you. Cheers to a new beginning. :)

Spade--
My heart goes out to you. I lost my husband 5 years ago, and life goes on, and we all get more troubles to make us function even through the grief, but the hole doesn't go away. (It does get smaller and change shape, if that makes any sense.) And the legal troubles sound lke they suck big time. And you're so fucking young... (Not exactly useful to say, sorry.)
I wish you the most wonderful time imaginable, plus some peace with the fact that you're having fun while he's dead.
Do you have a ride? Where are you coming from?

Spade,

It is my sincere hope that the worst is behind you and that the burn will give you an experience that will help you deal with the tragic and unfortuinate events you have had to experience recently.

Wow! Ive gone through some rough stuff when I was your age and all I can say is my heart goes out to you.

Bring the blank paper and your graphite and I'm certain beyond a doubt you will fill the whole pad on the Playa.

Im very enlightened by all your positive feedback! Im not even out there yet, and I already feel like Im home. I live in a tiny town just over the Western Nevada border in California. it is 52 miles North of Reno, and 44 miles north of us is Susanville. Its called Doyle, and on the map, its actually parallel to the black rock desert approximately 40 miles over the mountains. There is a backroad through my town that will take you the back way through the desert, through the mountians, over the cal-neva border and into gerlach. I see many burners come through every year making their way to Black Rock City. Its fun to sit at the local shell station (the only thing out here) and watching all the art cars and busses and rvs come through all fancy. burners fit in perfect in our little town, you'd look like a local comin back covered in playa dust. 40% of the people out here live in the desert full time, not power, water or sewage, they live like you would on the playa, having to generate or haul all of your own resources. Im fortunate enough to have those things, but my house is old and worn, and sometimes we have to do without those things for a fair amount of time. Im anxious to hear more about all of you. I dont have a camp yet, so Im looking to find some cool fun friends to maybe camp with?

Okay, I'm one of those citified Californians and all I can think about the lizard races is someone heard about the frog jumping contest, and decided to try and get into that racket.

PS-Spade, if you go into your profile and turn the "Disable BBCode" off, you'll get the quote function to work right.

Thanks, I didnt know it wasnt working til I logged on today. So I have a couple benefits to being your camp-mate if someone would like to offer me a camp to stay in? I am certified by the US government for CPR and First Aid, I am a very clean person, I am an awesome campfire cook, I am very fun to be around, and I will keep a smile on your face, I am always prepared, I have a very chill outgoing attitude, and I am very open minded to almost anything. If you think Id be a good addition to your camp, please PM me and let me know. I also need a ride, and I can help out with gas, and I have a trailer to hook up to anything that can pull it. Its a chuck wagon type thing, 4 compartments all the way around, and poles on the top to cover whatever we throw on top with a tarp. reminds me of a hot dog stand or something, and its registered in California.

I don't know if ESD is still taking volenteers, but you could put those first aid/first responder skills to use there next year, if you wanted.

that would be sweet. im certified, ive only actually had to use my skills 2 times, both in the last month actually. one guy got knocked the fuck out in a fight in reno, and he was unconscious and i had to keep him stable until the medics got there, another was an old man having a stroke. neither one i had to do cpr on, but had to check vitals and try my best to stabilize them until professionals got there. I can remain calm and focused in high tension situations, ive had to be the sane one a number of times.

Well, you might want to stop off at one of the Med "Tents" during the event and chat with the people there.
