no doubt that you've reached the point where you should just give it up for this year. You've done the old collage try and when you get back from the event you can talk to local people about what it might take to get it serviced and they you know what to save up for. Please, don't go on torturing yourself.

Cotton is better than biodegradable; cotton is compostable. (Of course you get into issues of mordants and dyes...)

Fae, people do bring sewing machines to the playa. Either treadle or with generator. We can do alterations. All we have to do is find someone who would want to help.

Good morning Fishy, Misa, sput :D ! Feel good this morn, the coff'o is delish! (went out last night with campmates- saw some good old friends haven't seen in a spell, was nice :) ) Going to my 10 year HS Reunion in town here on Friday, will see all the ol' classmates (Class of 00'!) Hey Fae-- :D (I hope you're not totally burnt out on the clothing design projects, in fact, instead of sewing, could look into the next best thing: iron-on project (what I do cause' I've never learned the stitchwork )
Image
It's iron-on applique/plasticine bond (available in 1/4, 1/2, and 1 in. rolls, full-sheets & five yard rolls-available any big box or fab. & craft. store= cheap & strong :P ) All you need is an iron and then let your imagination run free (tons o' fun!!) Use it all the time on gift/Rally shirts, washable.

Hi CC, Fishy!

Misa, the kilt I wasn't wasn't on the rack this weekend, so it's going to be shipped to me. Should have it before I leave for the playa since it isn't a custom cut. You get to see it in person.
It's going to be alright.

For sure Misa :) ! making designs now on the comp. to print onto Dark Iron-on transfer sheets (the best!!!) for images, then use the Stitch Witch tape (super "1-2-3" easy to use: just iron the clear side down/yellow backing up to any fabric/object, peel the yellow backing off and flip over to apply & iron again--melts & seals) can make anyone a fashion designer :D (Cc pours another hot cup of black "YES!!!"...

I should probably use that stuff to apply some fabric over the mesh on my tent this year.
It's going to be alright.

Not a bad idea sput--have used it a ton over the years, can be applied to cotton & (carefully) to synthetic (Rayon, polyesters, etc.) Some notes: if plastic, set iron to a synthetic setting (cooler but you just press iron longer) & if do wash shirt/clothing, wash and dry it first then apply or flip it inside out for first wash if already applied (the washer tumbler is not "Art's & Crafts" friend, ha 8)

Man...it has taken me quite a long time today to wander into the bar.

So...with that...I will dive into some boos.

@FT: Darling...don't worry about the costumes. Bring some comfy clothes, some scarves, whatever accessories you have, and the playa will provide. I have an ULTRA short rainbow colored tut with your name on it (it's also ULTRA small like you) should you desire it on playa! :D

To everyone else! HELLO!

Sputnik, how much tailoring does a kilt need????

It's little more than a towel wrapped about your waist, ain't it?

And it's scratchy wool isn't it?

On the same tack, BP says that there will "probably" be no more oil into the gulf.

Unless it's overturned by the supreme court, or hurricane. ;)

jeeze, who forgot to cool it? it's HOT in there

yay for good news, yay, for cake, yay for friends helping frustrated friends solve issues.
yay's all around.......

Fishy:
that is a great idea, a sewing machine on the playa.....we know several talented tailors there.

*high fives VCG*

Hey Sput..........
I was thinking a kilt this year. but, it seems time is not on my side, so, I'll be sporting a nice "baby jeebus" robe, again....."virginal white" as is so fitting my personality.

re: clothing - have you thought of using duct tape - also known as "the bachelor's sewing machine"? You can use it inside the garment and try to be subtle or get the shiny/pretty colors kinds and make it part of the image.

Oh, and spray paint. Make a plastic template and spray paint on something interesting. Or brush paint.

I have a fairly nice women's jacket that I got at Value Village - but it was a bit frumpy for my taste. I redid the lapels with shiny duct tape and cut off the sleeves and it's MUCH better.

This the one I was looking for when I found the link for fur bikini above. This guy has several Bman how-tos posted.

He's got a website here http://lustmonkey.com/

Also - I'll have some extra stuff, including some little small things that don't fit me (long story) and some hats. My stuff tends toward the goofy rather than the stylish, but stop by and see, maybe I can help. I'll be with Minitropolis in FunkyTown at 8:30 and G.

I will have a piece of the cake but I want to see the judges full ruling and opinion before I celebrate too hard. politics is a sleezy business. And ll's fair in love and war.

You duck taped the buttons sd? An the paint stayed?

Utilikilt, not wool but a cotton blend, lots of pleats each individually sewn.

Ygmir - the robe sounds good.

Great news about prop 8

I agree FT, this has been a long game of Lucy with the football. I'm happy about this ruling, but noticed a website that says they'll fight to the supreme court to overturn it. still a lot of bucks without real understanding out there. Full citizens today in California and I think that's right.

FT - there were no buttons on the lapels. I'd probably have taken them off.

re: paint - my first year there was a couple who had plastic templates and spray paint and you could spray paint The Man on anything you wanted. I did my very favorite tee shirt which was then double-favorite until I gave it to one of my very favorite people and made it triple favorite. The paint never faded.

The guy in the videos did one where he spray painted some sneakers silver to good effect. He's actually been a bit of an inspiration to me - I can't sew at all but I can MODIFY like a son-uv-a-gun.

Good evenin' barfolk.

Gave a blood sacrifice to the The Contraption with a slice to the finger last evening. Every project seems to require one, so at least it's done now. And it's the pinkie so I can still work.

But beer will make it feel better, I think...
