another virgin here

Post by lizâ„¢ » Sat Aug 07, 2010 7:48 pm

sort of. i've never been to the playa and have lived in san francisco for 14 years. it's time to see what all the fuss is about! to say that i'm panicked, frantic, anxious, ready to pull my hair out at the preparations would be an understatement. i've got the list, now have to start shopping! i've been camping in nor-cal this summer which has exposed me to some sun and heat and i live where it goes down to 40 all the time (and i sail on the bay—want wind? but it's a bit different out on the water). i don't know why i'm so panicked. it's all so overwhelming!! car camping? do i want to drive my car into the dust? oy my god. any suggestions not mentioned on here—things that you wish you'd have had last year even though you've been a thousand times... things like someone telling me no thongs—full panties are crucial... i am borrowing all equipment and camping with friends who tell me not to worry, but i worry. blame it on my mother. ; ) i never would have thought about the underwear bit and it makes so much sense... it's things like this i'm looking for. you know? and where to buy inexpensive little tutus and bikinis in sf—that'd be great. i found the bike kitchen to prepare my bike... and now i'm rambling.

Welcome!

Listen to your friends and if it gets to rough, remind your friends you listened to them!
It's kinda like Austin out there, except no humidity. Or plants.

Liz-
Check out this thread: Things you had wished you had known your first time

It's chock full of the kind of "wisdom" you're looking for. Everyone's needs are different, but it'll give you a good overview.

Panicking is good- it means you're thinking. Make lists, check things off. Check the list while you're packing your car to make sure you don't miss something.

Take a deep breath, and we'll see you in the dust in a couple of weeks!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

thanks guys! i suffered 7 austin summers while in school—the heat that burns nose hairs! gotta love it. so i have the list, have added things and now just need to run around and gather. has anyone found a place that has gear the quality of llbean but cheaper? i think they're about the cheapest, and have all sorts of lanterns and led flashlights, etc... but if there's a less expensive online source for these... the $ add up rapidly!
