i find that so interesting eric. i live in sf too, but only a handful of people i talk to have even heard of it. and the ones who have think it's some sort of hippie gathering that they would NEVER attend. the other day i told one of my clients i would be gone that week, and she asked where i was going. before i could respond someone blurted out SHE'S GOING TO BURNING MAN!

my client replied…OHMYGOD! OHMYGOD! i heard everyone does drugs there—are you going to be safe? i heard it's just terrible…have you been? have you been? because i heard…

Here is what my 18 year old son says when I ask him if he wants to go (my 4th burn) "No way in HELL am I going to that Hippie-Fest".... ;)

Some people just believe what they see on TV... ;(

Family and friends know. Everyone on my FB are probably sick of me updating about the playa. But 1/3 of the friends on my FB are burners too.

Usually I just say I am going to an art festival in Nevada. I am currently looking for a job but don't want to start work until mid-Sept. The recruiters keep trying to push for me to start sooner and don't like that I am delaying work to go to some festival. I tell them I am volunteering there so I NEED to be there.

I prefer my coworkers to not know about my personal life. I only work contracts so easier since I don't stay in one place too long.

The sad part about that is that the Chronicle does stories on it all week, with photos, some front page; most of the local newscasts mention it during the week. We are the "home base" for the event after all.

I have no problems with it still being slightly unknown or misinterpreted. Now if we could only get some of the yahoo's to unknow it.......

The Bigger question to answer for me is when they ask, ",,,, and what is your gift?"

Well, when I tell them about the absinthe-issuing Superman cock, they kinda look at me and either grin wickedly, laugh out loud, or change the subject very quickly.

Tell me more of your "absinthe-issuing Superman cock". Sounds intriguing! (Assuming there's real absinthe involved.) LOL
