We're getting rain in Reno at the moment and it looks like it'll stay around for a minute.

That low is the normal "heat low" that forms in that location this time of year. The air there gets very hot and rises resulting in a low pressure area.

Looks like things in middle to Northern Washoe County is starting to heat up in the radar as far as those cells of showers go.

UPDATED: 7:20 PM. Looks like solid rain now from just North of Pyramid Lake all the way to the Northern end of Washoe County.

I took this tonight as the sun was setting. Its from Wingfield Springs looking North towards Pyramid Lake.

Hard to see but on the bottom of the pic, there are giant storm clouds over that area.

It made for a nice sunset.

There is a pretty large area of radar return now from North of Pyramid Lake. I don't know if it is all making it to the ground or not.

Wunderground has been showing steady rain activity over Gerlach and the area ENE of it for a couple of hours now... it would appear the playa is getting a bit wet. Hope the crews are ok. Anyone seen any links to photos or blogs of the setup crew like there were last year??

The weather station at the BM office which has been fixed it seems is reporting rainfall. Fractional amount but the Davis Instruments gizmo used can get sticky and under-report.

Looks like the storm cell is just lingering in that area.

Just got word that there are puddles on the playa this morning.
And the trash fence is up.

wow, if the trash fence is up, the Germans are supposedly boring roughly under it, not sure when, but, that was what they said.
I bet, digging a hole will be tough........

What ever happened to that guy? I haven't seen that post updated in a while. Do you know if there even still doing it?

On a more weathery note, I've been watching national radars and things, and the last couple weeks I've noticed that what ever weather happens in northwest Nevada happens in Denver a couple days later. And its been raining like crazy here!
Reminds me in high school, when I worked corn fields in Nebraska during the summer, I'd call my folks in Denver, cause if it rained in Denver in the afternoon it would rain in Hastings at like 2am.

Rock hard would be a gift from gawd compared to many other years, but how about rock hard without any drifts of playa dust? I think I remember a burn like that long ago.....

I'm not sure whats going on with Reno weather. We had the longest winter ever this last year (snowed in late may). And for the last 3 mornings its been in the low 50's when I wake up.

This whole year has been completely whacked for the weather..

Here in FL this year we had 2 weeks where the high didn't break 35, and it SNOWED in Orlando. It didn't warm up until April, and now it has been so dry that everything is turning to a crisp.. usually it rains every day without fail in the summer. Something is going on..

It's STILL not warm near San Francisco. We've had the heater on every morning and night for the past 2 months. Our vege garden rotted from mold and we're fighting S.A.D. around here. The fucking fog is FUCKED!

Exactly why I moved to the LA valley. SAD was kicking my but up in the Bay Area.

I hate LA, but the sunshine is worth it.

I'm a fog lover. Seriously. Everyone else bitches about the fog, I tell them to suck it or move. Nothing makes me happier than gray days and cool breezes. There's a reason I'm a long time San Franciscan, and the weather is part of that reason (I'm only truly happy between 59 - 69 degrees F, except for one week of the year....)

That being said, even I am getting tired of it- we've had maybe 2 or 3 days since the beginning of July without fog overhead. Days on end of it are fine, months of it is getting ridiculous.

So glad to know that climate change isn't real......

I was born in San Francisco. We lived in the Sunset on 43rd Ave - seven blocks from the beach. One of the fond memories was the fog horn blowing when the fog was in. That was back in the forties so I have no idea if they even have a fog horn any more. It was the good old days - we even had anti-aircraft guns in Golden Gate Park at the time.
