That's a hell of a drive in a bug.. wow.

Have you looked at the price and trouble of driving vs flying out and renting a car/box truck? I'm coming from FL too, and after weighing all the options, flying into Reno and grabbing a 16' moving truck to transport and sleep in was the best option. Bring an air mattress with you and buy all your food/water/random stuff in Reno.. you're set.

I know but I'm taking a little teardrop camper I've already made one trip out west with the beetle and it is pretty comfortable ride I'd like to travel with a small caravan if possible
