The japanese are just like everyone else.

Tokyo's 'oldest man' had been dead for 30 years

He was thought to be the oldest man in Tokyo - but when officials went to congratulate Sogen Kato on his 111th birthday, they uncovered mummified skeletal remains lying in his bed.

Mr Kato may have been dead for 30 years according to Japanese authorities.

They grew suspicious when they went to honour Mr Kato at his address in Adachi ward, but his granddaughter told them he "doesn't want to see anybody".

Police are now investigating the family on possible fraud charges.

Welfare officials had tried to meet Mr Kato since early this year. But when they went to visit, family members repeatedly chased them away, according to Tomoko Iwamatsu, an Adachi ward official.

Authorities grew suspicious and sought an investigation by police, who forced their way into the house on Wednesday.

They discovered a mummified body, believed to be Kato, lying in his bed, wearing underwear and pyjamas, covered with a blanket.

Mr Kato's relatives told police that he had "confined himself in his room more than 30 years ago and became a living Buddha," according to a report by Jiji Press.

But the family had received 9.5 million yen ($109,000) in widower's pension payments via Mr Kato's bank account since his wife died six years ago, and some of the money had recently been withdrawn.

The pension fund had long been unable to contact Mr Kato.

"His family must have known he has been dead all these years and acted as if nothing happened. It's so eerie," said Yutaka Muroi, a Tokyo metropolitan welfare official.

When Is A Switch Like A TV Show?

When it has Red Buttons. These latching push-button switches, while they never had their own TV variety show, are still quite popular.

FBI fights to protect its seal from Internet encyclopedians

The Federal Bureau of Investigation keeps close tabs on the image you see over director Robert Mueller's shoulder — the official FBI seal. Which is why it has threatened the online encyclopedia Wikipedia with criminal prosecution if it doesn't remove the image of the seal that it uses to illustrate the FBI's Wikipedia entry.

As the New York Times reported on Tuesday, the FBI's deputy general counsel actually sent a letter to Wikipedia [pdf] late last month demanding that the site take down a high-resolution rendering of the seal "because it facilitates both deliberate and unwitting violations" of federal restrictions on the use of the image. Indeed, it is a federal crime to "manufactur[e], sel[l], or posses any badge, identification card, or other insignia, of the design prescribed by the head of any department or agency of the United States." And according to the FBI's crack legal team, posting an image of the seal as illustration of an encyclopedia entry constitutes manufacturing, selling, or possessing such an insignia. (Maybe they confused Wikipedia with the villainous WikiLeaks?)

[Why is the FBI picking a fight?]

Wikipedia's lawyers clearly had fun with the request [pdf], particularly because the bureau, in citing federal law, conveniently omitted the words "badge" and "identification card," apparently to make it seem like the law simply governed images as opposed to fake credentials. "While we appreciate your desire to revise the statute to reflect your expansive vision of it," the site's lawyers wrote, "the fact is that we must work with the actual language of the statute, not the aspirational version ... that you forwarded to us." The site went on to politely decline the request and indicate it would gladly see the feds in court: "Badges and identification cards are physical manifestations that may be used by a possessor to invoke the authority of the federal government. An encyclopedia article is not."

If the FBI is concerned about the proliferation of digital reproductions of its seal online — which, as a simple Google image search will confirm, is indeed rampant — they might want to stop posting high-resolution images of it all over their website. And if they're concerned about counterfeit badges, they should also stop posting close-up photos for fakers to crib from.

I sent this to Walmart headquaters yesterday, after a visit to my local store. They are all such assholes there! No, I didn't buy anything.
***********************************************
I had one of the most disturbing things happen in your Walmart store in (my local town) today. There were several store employees working on a display in the back part of the store, and man who I assume was the store manager, Scott, by his name tag, was continually berating, humiliating, and embarrassing these workers. I hung around for several minutes, and he never stopped with his sarcastic and belittling remarks. I am not sure where this fool learned his management skills, but even for Walmart, this was out of line. If he has something to say to a specific employee, he should take them aside and speak to them. If he has something to say to a group, he should use a better tone than sarcasm and humiliation. No matter what, this should NEVER, EVER, EVER be done in front of customers, regardless of his own low self esteem.
There should be some district manager who can wear a pair of steel toed shoes and kick this bubblehead to the curb. I have read stories of Walmart treating their employees like dogs, but I and several other customers witnessed this first hand today.

Pretty good example of the streets of SF less than a year before the 1906 earthquake. Ahhhh remember the days without traffic laws and crosswalks? It actually reminds me of what Rome is like today,,,, and they DO have all the modern stuff!

There is another video that recreates exactly that same run in, I believe, the 1970's. I posted it in the "my favorite you tube" thread within the past year.

Heh, no, it was 2005. Here's the new video of the same run down Market Street:

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is behind bars for committing "lewd acts" with a mannequin in a public park Sunday morning.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department, 61-year-old Eddie M. Campbell from Belle was caught at Booker T. Washington Memorial Park in Malden with his shirt off and his pants around his ankles.

Deputies say Campbell was sitting on a park bench with an armless mannequin on his lap, holding it with one hand -- pleasuring himself with the other.

Some people do it with style. A number of years ago a stretch limo pulled up to our office. A person got out with a bottle of champagne, walked into the office, dropped off his ID and said I quit.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Time counts and keeps countin', and we knows now finding the trick of what's been and lost ain't no easy ride. But that's our trek, we gotta' travel it. And there ain't nobody knows where it's gonna' lead. Still in all, every night we does the tell, so that we 'member who we was and where we came from... but most of all we 'members the man that finded us, him that came the salvage. And we lights the city, not just for him, but for all of them that are still out there. 'Cause we knows there come a night, when they sees the distant light, and they'll be comin' home.
