First Timer from Sacramento
Hello all, I have pretty well decided that I am going this year for the first time. Once I buy a ticket at Cheap Thrills, I'll be locked in. I'll be headed to BRC by myself in an '82 Toyota motorhome - no generator / AC. I'm debating with myself (and now apparently with all of cyberspace) whether or not I should invite somebody to share my ride. If somebody did want to tag along, they'd definitely need to like rock, heavy metal, and country music and like to drink beer. Even if I go alone, I hope to find some kindred spirits who like to party.

If you find someone willing to split gas and travel with you, you might like this handy thread about "House Rules" for RV traveling with others.
Key observations: don't use the toilet. Especially for that.

I really liked this thread even though I don't travel by RV. It really opened my eyes to the differences, prepared me (just a little) for any future RV-at-the-Burn experiences, and made me feel a little better about tenting it. Clearly there are both benefits and disadvantages.

Sacto. In the House!
Dude, I'm totally from Sacramento and this will be my first year, too. I'm already riding with someone and we're going up 50 to get to Burning man (we dig the scenery, and Tahoe:-). Which way are you headed?
cushy
Kind of cushy for your first year, don't you know you're supposed get the shit beat out of you by dust storms for a couple of years before moving up to an RV?
Beer and cows on the road may not be the best combination… a friend from Sacramento had his RV totaled by one a few years back… be safe.
When your back to Sac Town, drop me a note and I will buy you a beer at he Bon Lair.

OK, here's my story about the motorhome. I work as a substitute teacher and also do painting and drywall at Cal Expo & State Fair. The school year ended, and the fair started which left me unemployed and available to travel. I had plans of a great adventure lined up to go from California to Yellowstone and beyond, so I bought the Toyota for $1,200 on craigslist. While my son and I were on our shakedown trip to Sequoia National Park, I learned via telephone that my father had lost all use of his legs and was in the hospital. I came straight home and have made myself available to water my father's garden, work a bit around his and my mother's house, and visit him in the hospital every day. Needless to say, our great adventure has been severely downgraded. My father is now in a therapy unit in Vallejo, and he is quite busy learning to become self sufficient in a wheelchair. Since he is now so busy and out of town which reduces my visits, I have decided to go to Burning Man to justify the extravagance of my motorhome purchase. The rest shall be history. Heck, I forgot to include this in my story in a different thread where I'm begging for the gift of a ticket. LOL
I haven't given any thought to my route. Perhaps Highway 80 will be easier for my little four cylinder motor.
Will do about the after BM getting in touch.
[Edited for stupid typo]
