I can't do photobucket at work, darnit... I've done large tents out there and they *seem* to hold up OK to about 60 MPH... However, I also traded off the less-dustiness for the relief valve option of leaving screened openings in the predominant wind-direction sides (in and out).
I'll see what I can when I get home...

There is a fly. should I use it in the desert?
Shade structure isn't built yet but its a thick steel tall thing. My hope if to build it maybe friday or if I get the nerve to go back down there today. and try to hall it out... the tent and that thing each weigh as much as I do. The shade structure I will probably have to add soemthing to it. it has a white top but I hear you want to have reflective material. right?

Skip the fly. It actually traps more dust into the tent. Clip a blanket over the mesh vents on top. Amazingly effective at dust abatement inside the tent.

Sorry to break the news FT, but that shade structure won't last a day or two out there. The tent looks Great though, just make sure you have it staked down well.
Do the shade structure poles break down so it's just barely on top of the tent? Then maybe.... with tiedowns on each corner......

FT:
What TITWI says.......that shade'll shred,
but, if you can lower the legs (they slide within eachther to collaps, yes?), to just above the tent, and, stake each corner well, and, have one of us check the shade to frame attachments, it might be fine.
That tent, if staked, will work fine, too.
good call on the blanket over the vents.
zip ties are your friend.
make things twice as strong as you think they should be, and, IPBA.
and, I know several of us (well, I speak for me, but, assume others) would be happy to check your instal and help out if it's goofy.
I need a GnT.......
anyone?

now, back out to "BM project hell"..........
How was your meeting Misa?
are you an "absinthe-teer"?.........(I made that word up)..........

We may have to come up with a better idea for you. We may be able to use the top cover and it's support, but the 4 poles that give it it's height, aren't strong enough. ( I know, I've seen too many peeps watch them crumble when the top turns into a kite..FaeTora wrote:the top in tied and zelcroed to the top and the poles dont come apart. They break down to smaller poles but not indepedant of each other.
Do you know where you are camping yet?
Oh, yes, and a beer looks good about now.........
Edit: Just saw YG's post..... yes to what he said....

I'm always up for a gin and tonic.
The poles collaspe down into each other but I am not sure that the playa wind won't pull the up.
Honestly, I dont have a clue where I am camping. or with or without whom. I am so tired. That part has been the bain of the entire trip.

Sputnik and I will be on A and 3:00 at the BoobieBar, I think YG will be on that side also, and if MisaB is with BarbieDeathCamp, so will she. Let us all know when you plan to get there, and if you are on the 3:00 side, I'm sure we can all get together and help a virgin out........

Also...FT, I use an easy up put on the lowest setting and put it over my tent. It stays up just fine for me.
If I am not using a shade I use a wigwam because they are AMAZINGLY dust free. However, they are too tall for a good traditional shade structure at almost 9 feet tall in the center.

Unless you have one of these (but it only fits JUST BARELY!), but they are very large and I needed to alter mine quite a bit to get it playa ready. Don't have room for it this year, so it's not coming.

if I do this alone I might not be able to do a shade structure. Though thats still being worked out. I do though need a bath. After this coffee. thats my goal.
But the tent is good right? I may end up just having to take short sleeps before dawn and right after sunset.

Don't discount the fact that there are dozens of camps across the playa that offer places to nap in relative comfort. Including some great camps with misters that make LOVELY nap spots.
If you need anything...don't hesitate to ask!! We're here for you!

Fae: got any camo net? The skeleton of your easy up can hold up a piece of netting that's staked at the corners. Net provides surprisingly effective shade but lets the wind through. Since it's not attached to your frame, there's almost no chance of wind failure as long as it's staked well at the corners.
