Where to wait

Post by Dr Helix » Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:11 am

My Girlfriend and I are meeting in Gerlach in the afternoon, early evening on Thursday the 26th. We have early entry for the 27th so I assume I can queue up at Midnight to go in. Is there an appropriate place to wait till the witching hour? I didn't want to go on the side of the road and be an encumbrence to people who really need it, but I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers by trying to come in too soon. And I don't want to drive in the dark. Did that last year. Thanks for any help here. Can't wait to see all the eplayans at the meet and greet. You all have been a great source of fun and information to me all year.

Thursday night (August 26) will NOT be busy. Just go hang out at Bruno's?

There aren't really any places to pull over on the side of the road (outside of Gerlach or Empire). Pulling off the road is a good way to get stuck!

Hopefully you will be heading to a camp at midnight that is already setup and easy to find. Finding addresses/camps pre-event in the dark can be challenging.

I second his statement. The limited passes mean that Gate will only have a few cars in line on Friday after midnight.

Also, re-read your early entry pass. Some are not active until Noon on the date listed.

Thanks for the tip. The placer's meassage read "Your advance team will be arriving on or after Friday, August 27th." I take that to mean after midnight. At least I hope so

Yours say's "advance team"? I wish mine said that. It sounds all special forces like. Almost like you need to craw in under heavy fire with night vision gear. hehe.

Mines lame, it just says "BRC Early Arrival Pass."

But yeah on or after <day> means that whole day that's listed.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...

They're probably not going to be as "to the minute" on Thursday night/Friday morning. I'd try the gate when you get there, worst possible case they'll send you back to Bruno's anyway.

It's a bit frustrating really. We're bringing in a large art project ( a 14 ft tall valentine heart that glows) and need time to set it up. But the art coordinator thought we were just trying to get in early to get a theme camp set up (which we are a part of) even though we explained that wasn't our purpose. We actually could use the extra day to get ready but he took a hard line so that's why we're pushing for the midnight entry. Oh well, we'll make it work. Thanks for all the info everybody. Here's the heart id you want a look.

I've seen several vehicles, this week, that {APPEARED} to be playa bound infiltrating the Reno area.

Have some raviolis at Bruno's then go have a cocktail and hang out at the Miner's Club.
Do not park beside the highway waiting for midnight, you may get cited, stuck or both.

Ok...I'll the the one that bites:

Why are you guys "meeting in Gerlach early evening....?"

Why not either "meet in Gerlach around 11:30 pm OR even better....meeting in Reno in early evening, having nice dinner with lots of good protein to work on, then driving out to arrive right at 12 midnight so we can get to work?

Just sayin'....all the shit sent out about not getting into the local area ahead of time is there for a reason. But you can do whatever...

Well actually there are two reasons. One I did mention is that I'd prefer not driving 447 at night. I"ve got a good sized trailer I'm towing as I did last year, and the combination of the narrow road and lights coming at me is something I'd rather avoid. And secondly she's coming DOWN 447 from a route she began in Canada (her choice; she's done the other route for years) and I'm coming from the south (SF). So that's be a long roundabout for her. We'll sort it out.
