Help! satellite internet access at Black Rock

Post by JohnHealingHands » Mon Aug 09, 2010 5:33 am

Brace yourself: I've been burning since 2004. This year I'm running for office, and I'm looking for a way to check in with the campaign once a day while at Black Rock this year. Anybody going to have satellite internet access that I can pop in and use for a bit each day? I'm going to be camped between 3 and 5, but that's not important, I can peddle anywhere.

Thank you much in advance!

If it is important enough, why not rent a satellite phone and call in to HQ daily?

> I can peddle anywhere.

Since you're a politician, I accept that wording. But perhaps you meant to say you can pedal anywhere?

Rent a satellite phone and call in.

Or get an Inmarsat system and go on line.

Be warned, its a fracking progibitively expensive way to go if you're on line for long periods, but you have pretty good results - not ultra fast, but by god it works.

Look into it - if it's worth it to you to stay *that* in touch, there ya go!

Last year there was some weak wireless internet access at some points on the playa. You had to look around and it worked mostly at night, but I was able to exchange a few emails with the family.

Have your staff say you are on a retreat, focusing on community and values. As such, you are eschewing the modern conveniences such as Blackberries, laptops and the big collection of pipes and tubes called the Internets.

Your goal is to really connect with core American values and harken back to an age when we actually spoke to eachother, face to face... While wearing pink fur boots, goggles and a thong.

I have instructed my staff to say that I am spending the labor day weekend/week on vacation with family members.
