Burning Man isn't about the stuff you see when you get there ....it's about the people that brought that stuff there

Joe's sounds like fun tonight.

DPW is "on" the playa yet but almost there, they will be back into the getto in no time.

hey there faetora.FaeTora wrote:Then I need all of you wonderful people to tell me if it might withstand the playa.
i dunno if this helps, but my tent had zero mesh in 2008, i did not leave the door open, and everything was STILL completely coated in dust on the first day. and because it was all sealed up and had that tarp on top, it was also the hottest place on the playa. i sat outside during the 12-hour whiteout because that was preferable to the oven tent. the dust passes right through the walls of nylon tents. when the whiteout started, we hopped inside our SEALED tent, and immediately busted out laughing because our tent air was just as white as the outside air—weeee!

this year, i'm bringing this tent—the entire top is mesh! why? because i prefer a cool place to sleep over a dust-free tent. i am embracing the lovely, soft dust this year…not sure if i'll like it, but i feel compelled to try it out. it also has a white rain fly (not pictured), which i'll probably use as well. if your shit falls down, you can come over to my camp and we'll make playa angels.

p.s. bring lots of sheets to cover items in your tent that you don't want as dusty…like your bed.
p.p.s. i saw many shade structures like yours bent to pieces and hanging by a leg. that's the exact thing i wanted to buy my first year. maybe you can make it work—i love the taste of success when people tell me i can't.

I'm experimenting with a "tent cozy" this year. Think rain fly made out of heat reflective insulating foil. Well, hypothetically, anyway. I've got the materials, I've tested the stuff for tensile strength using the "pull as hard as you can method" also known as raw science. I've planned how I'm going to build in some flex and how I'm going to fit it. But it probably won't go together until Saturday, then it'll be all or nothing. If it works it'll be THA BOMB.
(yeah, I know: Swampdog in '07 said something like

but that was different. And the one I built in '09 was pretty darned successful. This evap system is going to be THA BOMB
It's o.k. to say you are making something, and then not bring it. When time runs out, you probably won't miss it, and it'll be waiting for next year anyway. I think of the things I spend a lot of time on that fell apart in 5 minutes, or just didn't work, or didn't get finished. whatever. Things I have been working on, are not really panning out as I planned, but I have what I need so it's o.k.
