DJ Would like to spin for you!
Hey, I'm ELiKi, I am a DJ from San Francisco and am co owner/operator of Frisco Fidget Productions. We've been throwing parties all over the San Francisco area and Dallas and this is going to be my first time going to burning man.
I'm going to be going up to the playa with Opulent Temple (which I'm stoked about), but would like the opportunity to venture out and share my music with as many people as possible.
here's a link to my soundcloud so you can check me out-
www.soundcloud.com/djeliki
I have a few mixes up including a very recent live mix.
Our website is going under construction again but should be up by 8/18 and its-

hopefully you guys like what I have to offer, if youre interested in letting me rock out with you my email is [email protected]
thank you!

Nice piece of passive agressive there. You forgot the namaste.
FYI--There are more djs than gigs at burningman. You might want to enjoy the burn in some other way.

NewsFlash: DJ #140923451 announces intent to play at Burning Man. Community doesn't even shrug anymore, it's about like seeing someone pass by at the store with a tattoo. Yawn! Film at 11.
On that haterade, do you like Fruit Punch, Strawberry-Kiwi, or Lemon-Lime? I like to offer choices.

it seemsl like every DJ gets trolled for posting on eplaya i think it be nice if you support and treat all the artists how you would want to be treated. regardless of the fact the 80% of the people who attend burning man seem to be a dj...

Criticism is just as much a part of the artistic experience as anything else. If he can't handle it here then he needs to go find another pursuit. I've been on the ePlaya for over a decade now in one form or another and I've seen so called DJ's come and go. They literally are a dime a dozen and everyone of them thinks they are the next Paul Van Dyke or Tiesto and they will be in the DJ Top 100 someday. Unfortunately that's not how the world works and if we crush a few dreams here...it might save them from wasting more time and talent that could be better spent elsewhere.
In this case to be fair I checked out his music...I think SoundCloud is great but his music to me is just ho-hum, filler stuff that after 5 tracks sounds remarkably blah. It makes me want to paint the ceiling beige or something, not dance.

... Or maybe he thinks he can contribute in his own way to the quality of Burning Man as a whole? Not everybody who djs thinks they're going to make it big, in fact only a very naive few are so deluded: they're just into music, and into presenting it creatively so that other people can enjoy it. A big part of my enjoyment of the BM event was the massive number of quality djs I heard there that I never would have heard otherwise because they're not commercial or they hadn't made it big: everywhere I turned I would hear a new, fresh and exciting sound, and it was directly due to the efforts of small time djs who give a shit like this guy.
I seriously can't believe the insane levels of vitriol on this forum, it blows my damn mind. It's like all the precepts and ideals of community that draw us to Burning Man in the first place go out the window in an online forum. It's shocking.

Again, I listened to the links provided and felt this overwhelming urge to run out to Sherwin Williams and buy 2 gallons of beige ceiling paint. If the music works for you great. I'm sorry you didn't like my opinion of it or the fact that I think BRC could use a few less DJ's performing. I'm sure this is not the only talent he has that he could "gift" to the community should he choose to do so.

Some of the aspiring DJs may be careful what they wish for One of the saddest things on The Playa is the DJ at the empty dance camp.Furtively stealing glances towards the vacant dance floor while desperately turning dials and setting tracks in an attempt to disguise the mortification.Unless you are a"big name" and can slide you had better bring your"A"game and best tunes.Even if you finally create a crowd they could all leave in an instant if the next track is not a winner.Takes a fair bit of courage if you ask me.Not unlike an artist who puts on a show for the public.
Be careful. You can spend all your money in there..............................Oriental Visitor

There's a picture floating around...I think it's of DJ Wolfie but I might be wrong. Anyway the DJ is working hard on his set but he's playing to an empty dance floor while hordes of people are passing by outside the tent. It's such a sad pic. But...on the bright side that DJ could go back to Camp Realitysucks and claim street cred because he played at Burning Man!!!! And he could milk that "Burning Man mix" for years and even make a buck or two to cover his expenses.
I had that in mind when I wrote my posts...don't be the lonely DJ, the event really does have too many. Heck even walking along the large scale sound areas off the Esplanade at 10 and 2...if you go a camp or two back you'll find the empty domes or maybe a handful of people hanging out. It's not as glamorous as it seems.

One of my best experiences was wandering around in a dust storm in the middle of the day to an almost empty dance camp. The DJ was playing some really crazy music and I just stopped there and listened with the wind and dust roaring by. Way more memorable to me than anything the big name DJ's did in the big sound camps.Kinetic V wrote:There's a picture floating around...I think it's of DJ Wolfie but I might be wrong. and my all time best experience ever as a dj was playing for one girl who wandered into our dome when i was trying to teach myself to DJ for the first timemudpuppy000 wrote:One of my best experiences was wandering around in a dust storm in the middle of the day to an almost empty dance camp. BUT - yes, it's true, empty dancefloor with loud dj = sad. especially if they're playing dubstep. or breaks. trance or house = not as bad (IMHO). swing or jazz = quite nice actually.
