First timer from Hawaii

It's fun to be a virgin again. I'm super excited, and a little terrified about getting everything ready in the next two weeks. Anyone on Oahu and want to meet before Burning Man? Aloha and mahalo.

Yeah, the playa IS the test.

Remember the basics, water, food, shelter. Read. Make a list. Two weeks is a scary short time, for me anyway. I'm sure it can be done, it's just gonna' take your attention. Do not underestimate the degree of difficulty. That said, it is just a camping trip... on the moon.

Aloha nui loa!

I lived in Hawaii for many years.
The humidity and daily rain is very different than the arid playa.

Even though you may have a tan and be used to being out in the sun,
you are no longer at sea level, but almost a mile high. Use sunscreen.

The playa is nothing like sand. It will suck the moisture from your body.
I almost never go barefoot. Make sure you have chapstick and lotion. You will dry and crack.

There are many camps that do hula, sushi and sake, and play ukelele's.
Salty seed and macadamia nuts would be perfect to share.

Hey thanks for all the messages and the tips. I've spent a few days reading all this stuff and have bought some supplies. Gotta make the final list and get on it. An extra challenge is that the larger things (like tent?, bike, shade, coolers, rebar, gorilla costume, etc.) will have to be picked up on the mainland in the hours after landing and before heading into BRC. And it wouldn't hurt to make sure all that stuff is usable before driving it out to the moon. I figure the more prep I do before, the more fun and free I can be once there. See ya'll there.... How about Zippy's chili with rice, banana lumpia, and Leonard's malasadas.

I miss going out to the yard for a plumeria for my hair.

mmmmmm Leonard's sweet bread even better.. and thank god they franchised L&L now.. except no locations in FL. I have to wait for my few months out of the year when I'm back home in Kailua, or catch it on a business trip to NYC. You know they FedEx overnight the kalua pig on ice all the way out up there? Crazy, yeah?
