How Do You Prepare Your Body For The Playa?

Post by Plumeria » Sun Aug 15, 2010 4:21 pm

As we have two weeks or so left, I am wondering what you experienced burners do to prepare your body in these last days before you leave? Extra vitamins? Fast? Extra fluid? Wax? Run around a tree 3 times? :)

Be more mindful of my hydration habits, work on my dry feet, trim and color my hair, shave my legs. That's about it, I am so badly out of shape nothing will help now.

Fill my prescriptions, but I only have Zyrtec and inhalers lately.

For every two regular beers, or well drinks, drink a light beer to stay hydrated.

But seriously, it takes a human body a minimum of 10 days to acclimate to radical change of any kind. Thinking about this now is a bit late.

Just chill out, take it slow the first couple thee days and listen to your body.

There is no magic pill recipe for success.

Clarification for the newbies who flock to the board this time of year- the playa mantra of "drink enough water so that you piss clear" is just a way to remind you to drink a lot of water, and to drink it constantly.

However, if you're pissing totally clear you're probably not getting enough electrolytes etc. If your piss is dark yellow, you're in trouble. You must drink enough water & keep putting slats & electrolytes in your body (did someone say Pickles....?)

I just show up. I'm 63, this'll be my 15th Burn. I've never done a thing to prepare my body. As far as I can tell, nothing needs to be done.

I like to shave my scrote for the playa. Makes it feel nice and breezy when I wear skirts, kilts and SC.

Is this some kind of penance for working with Adrian all these years and the newspaper of the same name? Hmmmm?!

You sound guilty.

I've been taking spinning classes - not so much to build up strength or endurance, more to get my butt used to sitting on a bike seat. It's just an added bonus that it's also good for me. :)

Penance? Nah, just noticing an uptick in newbies & trying to toss out advise everywhere. Y'know, being a smarty pants.

As for sounding guilty..... um....I wasn't even at that party last night, and I certainly never made out with someones boyfriend.

I'm really glad I've been using my burner bike as a commuter bike. For one thing, I'm building up myself for a single speed cruiser. For another, I've been working out the kinks. For example, I found out that the old wheel tape was cutting into the tube on the back tire, so then I get a slow leak and a flat back tire. I've been through two tubes, so bike is in the shop for a few tweaks.

My husband and I have been getting out for extra riding as much as possible. Then again, we'll take any excuse to ride our bikes more. We're a bit addicted.

I've been drinking more water, to get into the habit more than anything.

I'll be calling my doctor this week to get the next refill on my prescription. I think I might have plenty, but boy I want to be sure.

My big stompy boots are at the shop getting the calves widened. Cycling + calves = MONSTROUS!
Popped the playa cherry!

Mhmm totally on the butt comfort. also, covering your seat in sheepskin or fur works wonders.

I think that's the second time you've used that phrase, Token...........I'm starting to wonder if you have sexual fantasies about the "bad guys" on the original "Batman" tv series..........

I've been drinking every night. No joke! If I weekend warrior it I tend to get bad hangovers. I can't imagine anything worse than a hangover in the middle of the desert. So, whether I want to or not I bust open that 2 buck chuck and do what I gotta do.

Also I've been riding my cruiser every weekend to try to prevent biker butt (though I did get the fur seat too).
If you think you've overdone it, double it.
