Calling cards

Post by swampdog » Mon Aug 16, 2010 1:28 pm

I got a cheap package of business cards and used a word template to make up a playa calling card (business card sounds too much like work).

I put my playa name and address, as well as my "real" name and address.

I intend to give to people who might want to find me or remember me. I'll also have conveniently sized bits of paper to write down other peoples' contact info*. I also will stick them all over gear that I might want to share in camp but that I intend to take home with me.

FWIW

*and I plan to carry a pencil, because pens just don't work well for me in the dust.

I'm taking my camera, so I got cards made so that people can find me and the picture I took of them on my site.

Sharpies don't work in all conditions?

Is it bad karma to give out my real business cards? I don't want to be promoting my business but they are pretty. and they have all my personal contact info on them.

I suppose I could black out my website... thoughts?

Yep, I use my business cards, but blacken out any business references.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Hahaha. I meant ball points, but I thought a minute whether to add "Except for sharpies, which work everywhere". You, sir or madam, are completely correct. (the laughter is me laughing at myself)

Personally I don't have any objection to receiving business cards (esp if it's YOUR business and not a corp) but I wouldn't want to give out mine - which are corporate.

I did manage to get my boss to sign off several years ago for a business card request from me where I put my title as "Swampdog". He was less amused than I was. I don't think I have any left.

I love Sharpies. I'll be taking a bunch, especially fine points which are boss for writing on my cards.

One thing I've done for years is carry a nice bound notebook that I can write folk's info in. It's a nice non-moopy alternative. It also has my various lists, and reminders of places, parties and things to do on the Playa. Lives in my backpack.

Ooh thanks for the reminder. I usually carry a little tiny moleskine that fits in my belt pouch, but I want to write up a "full schedule" of things I am interested in- not necessarily to follow, but just to have a shorter version of the WWW and the online WWW. I found last year I was always flipping through the whole book to find that one thing I looked at 2 days ago, and couldn't remember when/where it was. So I might use a bigger notebook this year :)

Sharpies are also great for writing on the temple. I'm bringing a pack to leave there.

A little extreme, from my point of view.

For business cards, I bought some heavy stock (like thin cardboard, will go through the printer) and just made up some small calling cards for BRC. My name, camp address, and burner email. Took about 1/2 an hour.
