More bike decorating going on here, with colored pipe cleaners. We took our third ride, getting used to the lack of gears and having to use foot breaks. The Mister will finish putting lights on his coat tonight. Closer and closer!!!!

One more big project is complete. Today I finished the installation of the 50 watt solar panel and charge controller on my 1983 Volkswagen Vanagon.

Worked on a bunch of additional projects too, but this one took up most of the weekend. I'm super glad that I've got it done and working. The charge controller shows that the battery is being charged as anticipated.

(Just an FYI: Having worked in a costume shop, I spent my days poring over the history of fashion books - it'd always been a hobby, still is, so I can tell if a picture is 1963 or 1965 based on what they're wearing. My dream job is to work wardrobe for Saturday Night Live, and go to FIDM for their Film Costuming major.)
Whoa FIDM has a costume major now? In SF or LA? I went there back in the 1980s. There's where I learned to sew etc. You and I need to talk shop!!! ;-) Shit!!! I have some stories, having worked in the rag biz down in LA and up here in SF. I bet you do too!

Last night I started throwing things into the suitcase...the pile is now 2-3 times bigger than the suitcase.

Returned the water bladder, got 2 1L instead, already think it'll work better.

At the library using the interne to ask questions.

Going home to finish the damn cloak and hip belt and pack suitcase to see how much room for further goof-offery I can pack.

Deep breathing and maybe some Xanax, 42, don't PANIC, I still have a couple of weeks...just not enough days off.

Did another run down the packing list that my friend put together for me. The list of things I need to acquire is now down to 3-4!

Tonight I hit the thrift store to try to find a black jacket I can turn into a vest.

Nice work. That first photo looks like you also have a windmill coming out of the roof.

Were these taken near Palm Springs?

Busy weekend. Found no-sugar added mandarin orange fruit cups and boneless, skinless sardines, too! It's soooo close now...
sardines...yum.

I love sardines! But not the bones. So, a cool find. :D Of course, now we are picturing poor, unfortunate folks whose job is to remove sardine bones 8 hours a day...

Thanks! So far its working pretty well. Was a lot of effort just to get the 50 W panel up there. Can't imagine how hard it would be to get 1.8 MW wind turbin mounted on my van.

The site is the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facilitylocated just outside Ellensburg, WA. Its a nice place to come regardless, but its a particularly useful place to go when you need a little wind to make sure things are wind worthy.

If you liked canned fish...the 99cent only stores...I don't know if you have them close to you, they are like purple and green (a big chain near me) have full grocery stores inside. They have an INSANE amount of decent to really good canned fish. That's where I am headed in a few days.

I didn't think of that. We have a Dollar store, but I just happened to notice the boneless/skinless at our regular grocery store and then didn't look anywhere else. But I paid $2/can. Oh well. :D

Ours, too. We were just there tonight to get some water. They did have sardines (and smoked oysters if anyone's into those), but not the boneless/skinless kind.

My dollar store had hallowe'en skeleton garlands.

I realize this is different from sardines and solar lights.

I hit the store tonight for dried fruit and breakfast bars. Should make the last of my grocery list except for a loaf of bread that I'll get on the way. Vehicle maintenance is all done, trailer maintenance all done. I've packed and unpacked some stuff already - it is so hard to not be a packrat!

My thoughts have run wild getting ready for this. That's a good thing!! hanks already, Burning Man!

Today's items:

* Moved tickets from safe storage place to inside purse I'm bringing on the trip.

* Mostly covered the new ice chest with that Mylar bubble insulation stuff.

* Bought more ball bungees and a 2nd ladder for our shade structure.

* Got some "Lil Smokies" sausages to share with camp mates.

* Found myself grinning a lot about the impending departure.

I had ordered new contacts last week. When I looked at the site today, they still had not shipped. NOT COOL since I leave in 8 days! So, in emailing with them, I discovered that they had to order them from the manufacturer and could not guarantee when they would be shipping or an arrival date. (Note that when I ordered them, they said they had them in stock!)

So, after freaking out just a tad, I decided to let it go....things will work out. I went to go through my makeup and bathroom essentials and decide what to bring for the trip and guess what I found.....2 boxes of contacts....yep, didn't even know they were there! :) Awesome happy day!

Watch out for those ball bungees--if you put even a moderate amount of stress on them, they can come apart. They're okay for VERY light duty. We were using them to hold up our bed in our Gypsy wagon (the original design). Probably had 16 of them or so all the way around, and together we weigh ~325 lbs, so about 20 lbs. of stress per bungee. Less would have been better. :D

Thanks for the warning. They're back up for the ones that came with the roof tarp for our shade structure. I think we'll be okay.

Started working on my 'no sew' Tu-tu last night. We figured about 12 yards per person, and it might end up not being enough. Probably, partialy, cause we just used the width of the fabric, and didn't bother cutting across the fold. Its super long in places, like down to my knees, and I'm a little over 6' tall. Once its done we might have to go back and cut some of the longer stuff then tie it back on again.
Still need to get some thicker thread to reattach the El wire to my back pack.
Still need to finish straightening the fins on the roof mount AC units, of the RV.
Only 12 days tell we hit the road!!!!! OMG!
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

I would suggest that anyone starting today should do two or even three things a day.
