i just found out a ~week ago i'm going to the burn for the first time in 5 years. a friend is gifting us the trip. others are offering gear, childcare, work coverage and other essential stuff. omg. i so can not wait to get to the desert.

since friday we've set the tents up in the yard, found camelpacks and moop tins, washed warm fuzzy boots. we've been collecting things listed on old lists from the attic, closets, our shop and the backs of our brains. the smell of playa is being kicked up and tickling my dreams. my costumery is coming together.

it's our fifth wedding anniversary on thursday at 4:20. happy honeymoon! my son is 3 and really wants to come to burning man with us. not this time... but soon, we say. :)

a lot has shifted for me in five years. after we married, we opened a business, leaving the corporate paychecks behind. i released chronic pain. i've embraced light and dark discoveries i've made about myself and let go of some of the rigid assumptions placed on me by generations past. i'm more confident in who i am and my path in this world.

and this... all of this happy happenstance that i've created around myself i can say is burning man inspired. i'm creating the life i want to live, every day.

looking forward to even more inspiration. see you in the desert.

Emily,

I know so many who talk of burning man is such different ways, but what you say, thats what I believe BM to be. I know it can be anything you choose. If you want it to be a party it will, if you want it to me inspiring it will. For me I hope it gives me back what I have lost or gives me that different path. I just feel like a mistake in the universe sometimes. Like a cosmic mistake that lived longer than she should and is just here in limbo. I can help other heal and can help people learn how to help others but for this one thing I am stumped.

I can not say or gaurentee BM will give me the answers I seek but I am very grateful that it has been for you. I hope you enjoy this burn and maybe I will see you and yours at the eplaya meet and greet.

agreed on both counts. i'm loving my 40s and though the universe has handed me some strange and sometimes shitty options on my way through, i understand now it was all for a very very good reason.

eplaya m&g is at BDCWB on thursday at 6:30, right?

What you say is so similar to what many of us experience through life as we discover who we really are and shed those preconceived notions of what we believe others expect us to be. Self acceptance and finding one's own path is a fantastic journey. And if you have true friends who encourage you to simply be yourself,,,,, well that is a blessing in itself.

Wha wha wha.......?

Well that sucks.

I promise to make everyone not have any fun on your behalf. :)

I, Ygmir, will not have nearly so much fun, this year, as I would if IBDave was there, and further, promise and swear, that, I will try to limit the shenanigans and hijinx into which I delve and initiate, this, to the best of my abilities and intentions"
Liar

Ummmmm, I mean, way to go Ygmir, thats very honorable of you. Hopefully I can join you on the playa and we can be miserable and bored together, knowing that IBD will be more comfortable, wherever he is, sitting in an air conditioned room and watching reruns of Gilligan's Island. :P
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

OMG! What an intense week! And it's only Thursday morning about 1AM.

Trish had surgery today and is doing fine. Hopefully she'll come home tomorrow.

So,,,, I sit here naked before you,,, listening to "The Landing" by Enigma. I've had an eventful week folks. Where BM is no small part of it. I don't think I've ever outright said this before,,, except maybe way last October when I first started "lurking". We are virgins, yet I feel so at home here. Tears flowing as I write this. We so long for home,,, where I will play "The Landing" for our first song,,,,, and dance naked in the desert for the first time. Words,,,, tears,,, cannot explain the emotional roller coaster ride I've had the last few days. I loved you before I met you,,,, all of you,,,, thanks for being here,,,,, we'll see you in 10 days! tek

and please dont forget to bring me a few of whatever you're on, evidently they're REAL good.

what? Blue Dolphins? Yellow Swans? triple stack Anita Bryants?

now remember, tomorrow you're going to hate everything and everybody.

thats why i would start out the morning by taking TWO of whatever it was you took tonight.

oh yeah, a box of mike and ikes for strength.

see you in the dust very very soon, and dont feel bad, i'm teasing you, and even the most jaded of crusty burners gets the fever by now and is fully consumed....they have just developed appropriate masking techniques so that their gathering of important doo-dads can go on un-interrupted by the defaultians and their silly questions.

"whats THAT for..."

**oh god, please, don't make me explain it here, now....**

i usually make up some plausible excuse.

"Um well, you see, um, uh......it's for my friend, it's kinda fucked up, i cant really talk about it....so, uh, Did you see that short Drunk Girl from Jersey Shore on the News?"

they usually drop it at this point, and i can go about my many many tasks and lists of lists.

funny thing is, guess what, you're a NEWB!

ha ha sucker, that feeling you describe of wanting to go home every year to see your extended burny family ONLY GETS WORSE WITH TIME.

happy first visit, and many happy returns.

Simon, no you don't make me feel bad at all. I think what I'm on,,, besides a bit of blue heaven,,,, is relief! It's been a huge decompression for me tonight. Trish is okay,,,, looks like she'll be able to eat dust with me,,, don't think she'll be dancin' naked tho,,, gentle smileeeee

And relief that the bulk of preparation is complete. What's left to do here can easily be done on the playa,,,, so I have a relief of goals reached,,, relief from going through the motherfucking nightmare six months of chemotherapy puts many people through. Relief that we are mending now,,, we can be whole again soon,,,, and I think BM2010 just may be the perfect new beginning.

Thank you Simon for your encouragement!
