Actors going to the BM?

Post by wanderself » Sat Feb 28, 2004 11:24 pm

Hi,

we are shooting a short this summer at the Burning Man (we are arranging the shooting permit at the moment) and we were wondering whether there were any actors thinking of going to the Festival this August who would like to use the trip to be part of our film. It is a very interesting and demanding script that has got a few awards in Europe. We are looking for two characters: a man in his early 30s/late 20s (in the script long hair and beard -- not essential at all), and a fifty-something old man who in the script would be a native american (again, this is not essential, but we are looking for an interesting face).

Obviously the Burning Man festival is there to be enjoyed rather than working, so the shooting would take very little time, two days at the most.

If you are an actor going to the BM and would like to join our project please let us know so we could meet up and talk about the script. We are both based in NYC.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Jonathan Mason/Daniel Polanco

I am a fifty-six year old man who looks like a forty-six year old man, and my son is a twenty-three year old man who looks like an eighteen year old man and we are both stage actors. We have extensive credits in Central California (including a shitload of Willy the Shake). We have even played the same character in two different productions of the same David Ives' play (Milton in "Words, Words, Words", from All In The Timing.) We have both done independent films and are both first timers at Burning Man. We are both interested in Shamanism. We can both do cold readings that can (sometimes) knock yer' socks off.

Let me know if you are interested and we can hook up through email. We'll have our people contact your people...

Wait a minute! We are our people!!

Why not "...a fifty-six year old man who looks younger but isn't worried about the fact that he actually isn't" ?

Still haven't figured out what the deal is in people (seemingly) feeling like they have to somehow obscure, diminsh, reduce, lie, or otherwise not cop to their actual age -especially after some nebulous 'certain point.'

No criticism meant. I just find it curious that more and more our culture seems to feel that there's something shameful about getting older or not looking 'young enough.'

Just seems like such a silly fucking thing to buy into.
