Poo, constipation, and all that crap.
Yep. So then, you should be familiar with how that stuff cleans you out. You might want to get a little bit to take with you, if constipation really is a concern.AntiM wrote:I had a colonoscopy last month, does that count?
That's why I'm taking the epsom salts, as a back up in case, well, I get backed up.

Far too extreme for me. I'l stick to hydration and diet. Besides, you ca't buy a "little bit" of halflytely....comes in a kit. Wowsers. My first colonoscopies, the doc ordered Fleet phospho-soda for the prep, but that causes kidney damage. Neither one was pleasant and even a "little bit" had an immediate and dramatic effect. Yikes, huh?

What I was thinking of, for a direct, immediate effect, the one available at drugstores, WalMart, Target, etc. wasAntiM wrote:Familiar, my ass.C.f.M. wrote:Yep. One person's "yikes" is another's relief. It just depends.
That's why I put the epsom salts in capsules, instead of drinking it.gerlachedNloaded wrote:oh antim, you got to experience the nulytely.. the jug of death. i think i vomited more than shit off that stuff.. halfway through and the doc THEN decides to tell me, by the way, the phospho-soda is also an option.. after 3 hours of torture i wanted to choke the bastard

Dunno. I measure out 3-4 T, the dose amount, and just fill them up from there - last time ended up being @ 16 capsules, total. Takes 2-4 hrs to kick in - drinking it straight, of course, takes less time. I just cannot stand the taste, anymore. Though, if you drink it through a straw and bypass most of your tonuge, it helps.gerlachedNloaded wrote:1 tsp in a gelcap, right cfm?
My doctor said a daily magneisum supplement of @ 1400 mg should help keep things going, as well.

I threw up a lot of it too. The phopho-soda is off the shelves most places around here. I used to shoot it.gerlachedNloaded wrote:oh antim, you got to experience the nulytely.. the jug of death. i think i vomited more than shit off that stuff.. halfway through and the doc THEN decides to tell me, by the way, the phospho-soda is also an option.. after 3 hours of torture i wanted to choke the bastard

I work in a health food store and find that if you do a good probiotic ( basically supplement form and higher potency and more strains of good bacteria found usually in yogurt) it works well to keep you regular without a laxative effect. A good thing to take even if you aren't worried about bm's in the middle of the desert.
That is quite the mis-information, there. If you "flush out," and continue to eat properly the excretory cycle will continue as normal.Minxy wrote:The enema idea really isn't bad. If you flush out well ahead of time you don't have to poop for days....and none of that salt. Just plain ole water works very well.

"You can encourage a bowel movement with a gentle abdominal massage. Generally, you follow the bowel. Begin in your lower belly, below and to the right of your navel. Move up, and then across. Then, move down your left abdomen and finish just above the groin area. Repeat this a few times, and in a while you will likely notice an urge to have a bowel movement. This is especially helpful for children. Do not massage if there is a pregnancy or any medical or surgical reason why you shouldn't. "
"Perform the massage either sitting on the toilet or lying down with your knees bent. Make a fist with your right hand and massage your colon using a digging, circular motion with your knuckles. Start at the lower right quadrant of your abdomen (just inside your hip bone) and work up to under the right side of your ribcage, then straight across, then down the left quadrant of your abdomen and when you get to just inside your left hip bone, massage in towards your groin/pubic bone. The idea is to massage the length of your colon which starts at the lower right quadrant of your abdomen and then up in a horseshoe shape under the ribs and down to the lower left quadrant of your abdomen. The rectal canal then extends from the lower left quadrant diagonally across to the groin (or pubic bone). Repeat this massage several times experimenting with varying pressure and your massage technique. This is a fantastic technique that can be used by anyone during, or to encourage, a bowel movement. It also relieves colic in newborns by helping them expel gas and stool."
Vitamin C is also a known stimulant, but it's never done anything for me.

My first Burn, I didn't shit once the entire time...Early entry on Sunday through Monday. I was stressed about it at the time, but looking back, I can only shrug my shoulders. I ate a SHIT TON of CLIF bars that year, too. But I also worked my ass off day and night all over our camp, and frolicked merrily and excessively as the first-time Burner does. Never 'made up' for it, either. Just kept chugging along as usual once I got home.
Anyway...Word to the wise: If you're ever in a situation where you turn around one day and say "Wait a minute...I haven't had a shit in DAYS!" And yet, you know there's something there that really should be coming out, I might suggest Fleet Glycerin. There are suppositories, and there are little bulb syringes prefilled for...insertion. What's good about that stuff is that it works FAST: In like 15 minutes. Stimulates the bowels, lubricates the works, and BAM!!! Off you go. And then, it's over. Doesn't leave you all jacked-up. Much more predictable than swallowing a pill and crossing your fingers for a half a day.
