Dry Camping-Night Before Monday Morning Entry

Alrighty.. I've read some damn good advice around these parts, that it's best to get a hotel in Reno, get a good night's sleep, good breakfast and then mossy on up to the Playa for opening day. Now for us Girls that need 8 hours or so sleep before a big day this sounds just so logical.

But... What if one has a fully self contained RV, like the Four Seasons on wheels? Why pay for a hotel room?

So where can one park their RV rig for an overnight free camp in or around Reno? Walmart? Home Depot? Circus-Circus? Surly there's got to be some people here with such experience?

Just drive right there, roll up to the gate whatever time you arrive Sunday and they will put you in the D Lot. Sit and chill until the gates open and they let you in sometime around 3AM, throw away your watch and sleep when you roll up to BRC.

Do not show up before midnight. Gate hates early arrivers, and you could spend hours sitting in D lot while everyone else goes by. The event is not set up for people getting there early, and they strongly discourage it.

For your sleeping- you might contact one of the Walmart's in Reno. Walmart generally allows RVs to stay overnight, but it's up to the store managers discretion.

After enjoying your free night at Walmart, their hope is that you'll shop and buy all your supplies there. Those shitheads wouldn't give you a Tic-Tac unless there was something in it for them.

Yes it is. D Lot is actually a good time. I have gone both ways, and you do get in a bit faster if you wait in Gerlach, but waiting in D lot with everyone else is pretty fun as well. People crack a beer, someone cranked up the sound system on their art car, and good times were had by all. Easily far better than sitting in a parking lot somewhere.

If you leave Reno/Fernley early on Monday morning, you should be able to roll up 447, and head into BRC without much in the way of stop and go. There will be more traffic on Sunday than on Monday!

Yep. If you get there before midnight they direct you to D lot. There are a ton of rows of cars, and you just pull up in your row and park. You can see the lines starting to move, and as the cars go in, your line will eventually go with a minimum of stop and go.

I think we got in at 3am. You can also just wait in Gerlach and watch the road to BRC. You will see the cars and RVs on the side of the road begin to move when the gates open.

There's also a Walmart in Fernley, which is quite a bit closer than Reno.

Also, you can camp at Pyramid Lake, but you have to get a permit. The only camping near the highway is on 446, not 447.
