Weather history for years past?

Post by percussivepaul » Sun Aug 22, 2010 9:55 pm

It's getting close enough to start looking at the forecast. So far so good: Highs near 85, lows near 55.

I remember the first time I went, in 2005, it was so cold at night I needed three sweaters and a wool hat, and I spent a lot of time shivering and hanging out near outdoor fire installations. But the second time I went, in 2007, it was comfortable at night, and you didn't need a sweater or even a shirt, let alone a coat or a wool hat.

I'm really curious how cold it got at night in these two years, so I can bracket the forecast in terms of my own experiences. Does anyone know? Is there a website that has a history?

My playa prediction this year is like that of 2008 based on regional weather conditions (going into a La Nina from a strong El Nino condition).

So far, the forecast for event week is for a fairly mild event with high's in the low 90's and lows in the mid 40's but that forecast is still a bit "out there" and not likely to be very accurate.

Here you go, from the Gerlach Davis Pro citizens station.

http://www.dongrays.com/burningman2008/
http://www.dongrays.com/burningman2007/

Please note that the BRC location is ~ 18 miles up the salt pan and temperatures on the Playa can go +- 15 degrees compared to the Gerlach tower.

Acuweather is forecasting 38 degrees for Gate opening. Fun!

Now go get ISO another drink!

Bring your flannel jammies.
A windy cold front is supposed to move in over the weekend w/*slight* chance of rain.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be hot during the day, cold at night, dusty, with a tiny chance of rain.

Wouldn't bother me a bit... I go to the playa in the spring and that is what it is like. Nice, I like it, too. But I don't care what it does. You can only be so ready. And I'm ready for all contingencies, except, of course, the ones that actually happen.

The cooler temps will be due to all the burners who built swamp coolers for the trip and now wont need them.
