24 hour gas station
24 hour gas station
What is the closest 24 hour gas station on the way from the playa to reno?
I want to make sure the RV has enough gas to get there on the way back.

If you don't mind the line, there is a gas station, is it Bruno's too?, in Gerlach that has a card pump. Entrance or exodus, I've seen a line. Depends on when you want to use it, though. I fill both tanks in Cedarville, I come from the north, and have plenty to make it there on the way back. But I know I can make it, and I have a back up plan, too. If you don't know the range of your rig, just fill up in Gerlach.

Empire may be selling gas. Don't know. I don't know if the Gerlach station is 24 hour, but it sure is horribly crowded. Nixon isn't 24 hour most of the year, you'd have to find their number and call and ask. Not much in the way of gas on 447 other than those three stations. Top off in Sparks or Fernley.

Just saw this in another thread...
I wouldn't rely on Empire or Gerlach for gas, you'd have to sit and wait regardless. The further away you can make it, the better. The Nixon Store, located on the Pyramid Lake Reservation will be opened, and have additional staff to serve Burners. They have water, soda, other drinks, a few supplies, and gasoline. You can also rent propane tanks and get your last minute ice for the road. They plan to be staffed for 24 hours during Monday morning and through the day and also during the Exodus.
Keep them in mind. You call Bonnie at the store at 775-574-0467 for more information.

How'd you get to Alturas going home without going thru Cedarville?...think mebbe you got your cities reversed?swampdog wrote:Dragon pilot - thanks, good to know. I'd have probably made it but I'd have lost way too much sweat in the process. So Alturas was great relief. Nice to know that Cederaville also has options.

dragonpilot - mostly I worry too much. At the turn off for cedarville, I actually was about 40% confident I could make it round trip to the playa on what I had. 40% confident is nowhere near confident enough. I didn't know there'd be gas at Cedarville at midnight. I get kind of antsy and scrambled wrt landmarks and towns on the way out there - kind of like "are we there yet? Have we passed such-and-such? What comes next?" (and yes I have all appropriate maps but I'd been driving 14-16 hrs straight at that point and wasn't in my best head)
So -
Gerlach inbound or outbound - nope, don't want to do it.
Cedarville inbound - didn't know it would be open.
Cedarville outbound - Couldn't really visualize it. If I had, 70% confidence I could make it.
Alturas - YAY Alturas, 0% worry.
Mostly when I tell the story I just tell how Alturas saved my ass, but really all it saved me was worrying my way over the Cedarville pass.
ETA: Oh. I re-read your post. By the time I got to Cedarville outbound I had no worries. I think I tanked up there. Alturas was on the inbound.

Hey, to those who have traveled 447 from Cedarville....
I've never been that route before and was planning to drive to BM from Redding via 299 to Alturas, turning on 447 at Cedarville. I was just told today that a significant part of that road is gravel and not paved. Is this true?
Thanks for your help,
Brian
