Yellow Bike Fleet

Post by Sundial » Tue Aug 24, 2010 12:03 pm

I hear there's a fleet of green bicycles available to the BRC community to use for getting around. How hard is it to find one of these bikes when you need one? There's a possibility I might not be able to bring my own bike.

No, you do not need to have a bicycle. It is nice to have and most of us do, but you can perfectly well walk and still have a fine week in Black Rock City.

In my experience, you find them now and then, but you can't rely on finding one when you need it.

And yes, the city is walkable, but bikes are nice cause you will see more. Even with a bike, I like to spend a night walking every now and then, as you'll notice so many things that you don't on a bike. YMMV of course.

Bring a bike if at all possible! The yellow bikes are super hard to come by and someone will swoop up your yellow bike as soon as your back is turned.

OK...calmed down now.

I tend to bike longer distances during the day...ice runs, deep playa art, visit friends cross playa.

At night I've learned to enjoy the sights and sounds on foot, linger, grab a ride on a mutant vehicle sailing by. Also at night there is a tendency if you're with a group to lose the group unless you're concentrating intently on the person directly in front of you...allow your eyes to stray for an instant...and they're gone!

Again I won't know unless I ask. If there is room just get on? Wait for an invite? What are the "rules" for hitching a ride on a mutant vehicle?
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

I always walk at night. Daytime I prefer to have a bike in order to get about, but I have spent many days simply walking the city. If the word that's out is correct, bikes may be much less useful this year than in past years due to the very loose playa
It's going to be alright.
