*im still not really sure how burning man camps work...but would i just stroll along and approach any camp that looks interesting? or do i need to be a part of a camp to enjoy burning man? sorry if this sounds like a really dumb question...but i just had to ask :)

Welcome home Sean!

you don't need to be part of a camp; u can just roll up and park anywhere that isn't taped off.

if you're looking for a home, check out "orphan camp"- u can search this disc board to find them.

you do not need to be part of a camp- and honestly at this point very few are looking for new members.

If you're in an RV, I'd suggest looking for a place to set up in the back streets (closest to where you enter). Especially if you get there later in the week. Up close to the Esplanade there won't be anywhere to park an RV by Monday night at the latest- and most of the space up there is reserved for theme camps anyway.

Poke around here on eplaya- there are lots of threads on solo-camping.

Have fun in the dust!

Yeah, you have to be asked to join a camp, but why would you want to your first year? Like Eric said, as you're coming in, look for a nice spot, meet your neighbors and pedal off to the wonder that is Black Rock City.
