2011 Burningman Art Theme Sucks!
I don't know what it is yet, but I am sure of that.

Rites of Passage
I like it. I can relate to it. When I went through puberty, all I got was a coupon for kotex. Burning Man was my real entry into womanhood....

Not really referring to the theme, but 2002 and 2010 are competing, to be my favorite year. 2002 gave us La Contessa....and while she's gone, I still see a lot of boats on the playa.

Remembering that conversation we had on the board earlier this year, about the sailors' rituals for crossing the equator...well...there are...possibilities.

It's awesome..
I saw Larry announce it Tue evening on the Playa. We were walking up the inner circle when we heard his voice and followed it to se him. I think it is very appropriate and considering my experience at this, our 1st burn, Burning Man is a Rite of Passage in and of itself.
Why wouldn't you like it??

There are people on the board who might be talked into that!

And as a result, every year we have fish cars, pirate ships and other things that dont relate to the yearly theme at all.

Does This Art Theme
Suck Donkey Balls? 30% [ 6 ]
Fill You With Nausea and Ennui? 20% [ 4 ]
Make You Want to Burn Your Gear Now, So You Don't Go? 10% [ 2 ]
Put a Hit Out on Larry Harvey? 15% [ 3 ]
Make You Long For "The Green Man"? 25% [ 5 ]
For all those (6 at current count) who chose the option "Suck Donkey Balls", the line forms to the right.
Ahh, yeah....that's good, right there, right there.
What theme
Same old shit, some Larry generated nonsense that at least 90% of the population ignores anyway. A radical self expression event.....should be exactly that. Who needs a theme? Be your own theme! [/b]

There's my art installation - The Wall of Passage - A christo's fence-like structure parodying the US Flag made of Kotex, wrappers, and Tampax Tube clusters for stars... Perfect!
(Yeah, that stupid "free sample" coupon, fracking commercialism consumerism thrust on young women everywhere by the corporations, try to get me on brand loyalty my kooch... Worked well, Kimberly-Clark... Guess which brand I never bought?)

As I am pushing 60 now, I'd like to see a funeral Camp. Passing on is indeed a rite of passage. River Styx, Pearly Gates, or the Black Buggy will get us all someday.
I'd like to see a New Orleans style Jazz Parade. Ten years since the levees fell.

See this is the problem with our highly interconnected world. People from teh UK shouldn't know about Bob's Big Boy. (It's okay if they know about Lard Lad--I don't mind that the Simpsons has passed beyond our borders.) I'm sorry, it's just wrong. And what a way to represent for ourselves. We should hang our heads in shame.

On a personal note-
I had a 12 year relationship explode and disolve while my father went from being cancer free to having to be moved into hospice.
And it is just March....
For me at least, this year's theme is hauntingly apropos.

I'm having some real issues in my life at the moment and its only thinking about burning man and the personal rite of passage of actually achieving something difficult that stopping me just jacking it all in.
