No Nudity at Burning Man 2005? -- Your thoughts!

Post by _tears_ » Wed Jun 30, 2004 5:08 pm

I brought this up on another topic and someone told me i should make a post about it seeing as i personally find it an interesting topic. So I am doing just that...

"We just had a talk on one of the many BM lists i am involved in about Burning Man being NO NUDITY in 2005. Not to spread rumors of course, but i was just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter... supposidly this is due to the uprising of children at the event, but that could very well be false as well
--TEARS--"

MY thoughts on the matter, weather it be true or not, is that they should not take away our right to nudity. To many it is a form of expression that they are comfortable doing only at burning man. I am a nudist, i love nudity and nude resorts, and I love being nude at burning man as well. To take away the right to be nude to is like taking away many peoples freedom to self expression.

If people do not like nudity, they do not need to look at it, they do not need to be nude. We are NOT forcing anyone to be nude. As for children... if the parents have a problem this them seeing nude bodys, then do not bring them. Why should the community of Burning man change there ways ?

Now.. if this was a problem with the law enforcment at burning man, and they are forcing us to do this, what more can I say? I believe it would have an interesting impact on the event and would change it greatly..

I cannt wait to hear your thoughts on it all.

Blessed be,
Tears

I would like to remind everyone that more in likely this is just a rumor.

BUT there is NO harm in seeing or talking about how we would feel if it WERE to happen. How would it change your views on the event, how do you think it would change the event in general, ect ect.

:!: NO harm in talking. :!:

Yep.
No rave music either.

All black leather and heavy metal, full tilt boogie, 24-7.

Don't worry _tears_, I think this is highly unlikely.

This is how rumors get started.

If anything, I think it would be a l.e.o. issue. People that attend BM are not the types that would want to force clothing on those that choose to not wear it.
I think they would ban children before forcing people to wear clothes (at least I hope they would).

But if Bush is re-elected, we'll all be forced to wear clothes at all times, even in the shower. I blame the statue of justice in the senate, just standing there with her tit hanging out. What a whore!!!

Tears ,i cry not-i enjoy the freedom at burningman especially bikes rides on the playa. Iam a naturist at heart,an respect peoples right to choose,to be without cloths.Iam also sensative to more conservative burners who are not yet so open to such freedom of expression. Therefore i take into of my own free will consideration ,of others as to when an where i choose to be in the Buff. For example kids camp,i have shorts on,center camp ,not wanting to be a display item shorts on.This is gouvernment land,i've found no objection from law inforcement, cloths free on us gouvernment land is legal. If some are offended i have not heard from them, there is room here an in all the earth for those with cloths an without ,let us respect each others freedom. In love an compassion NAKEN

On second thought, I think everyone should be forced to wear clothes. At least untill they all shave thier hairy bushes (guys too).

IMHO, it is probably a false rumor. In any event, I do not plan on being naked at BM when I finally go in 2005, and I really don't want to see the people I am going with in the nude :P , but I also don't think people should be forced to wear clothes if they don't want to.

Anyway, that is my opinion.

You know Tears, it'd probably be a good idea for you to take the time and make the effort to GET TO KNOW THE FACTS before you start fanning the flames of rumor and innuendo with threads like this.

Perpeptuating what's already turned into a shit storm on many fronts - some of it deserved - doesn't help anyone in forming an opinion around an issue that's been distorted enough as it is.

It already has been ezplained in an other thead. It is against the state law to run around in the buff. The cops are just not in to pushing it that hard. If you get nude and nasty they may take a dim view of it. Also if you get nude and nasty, it will piss me off no end. It would hurt the event no end.

I am not speaking in FACTS at ALL. I am just peaking out at random. And IF it was to happen because of law enforcment key word being *IF*.

AS i stated A FEW TIMES. THis is MORE than LIKELY A RUMOR

However,

Yeep! Beyond a "popular topic" this is radioactive...so though this scenario of a no nudity BRC (or more likely just a cover-the-genitals enforcement of local codes) is at present purely hypothetical, is it still worth exploring as a "what if"? Darn its fun to be naked and accepted.

" more likely just a cover-the-genitals enforcement "

Hmmm interesting on that one. I had someone PM me ( didint want to post and get involved lol ) And said that one idea ( IF it was to happen ) was to have a time frame for nudity, i found it to be an interesting idea ... maybe not WONDERFUL but interesting

What about avatars of white people dancing by "persons of color"? Are they going to allow such reverse "blackface" comedy next year, too?!

Gee! I hope so!

I'd suggest taking a chill pill. Acts of sex, seen from "public areas," are a fact of life at Burningman and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Are they illegial? Sure. Will/have some folk be/been arrested for doing so? Sure, I'd believe it. Just like I'm sure some folk have been and will be arrested for smoking pot in places where the cops can see/smell it.

But if those arrests were going to the event no end of hurt then that harm has been done, for the arrests have happened. And they will continue to happen. If that's going to make you mad, then I hope you enjoy your anger 'cause it seems to me *lots* of things must "piss (you) off no end."

Has the smell of sex gotten anyone arrested?

Why doesn't anyone make incense that smells like pots yet!
