What new music did you find @ Burning Man???

I had to come back early due to unforeseen circumstances, but I heard some amazing new tunes while i was there. A DJ was spinning a band (I think he said it was a band) called Signal Path who I hadn't heard of, but wanted to share some of their AMAZING tunes!!

Kinda glitchy, melodic, bassheavy electronic nutiness!! :D :D

Did a search and found they had a bunch of free music! http://albums.signalpathmusic.com

I love Signal Path for years, they used to play High Sierra Music Fest (not too far from BRC) and I am delighted to hear that they were boomin' out on the playa. That makes me happy! I once heard an art car blasting Lotus, which is more guitar driven but similar trips.

Missed the great music this year but I love the sound tapestry at Burning Man. So much random stuff, if you are a really loose music lover like me, it all makes sense. :Cue up Sheena Easton Morning Train:

Ive discovered so much great stuff actually present live at Burning Man. March Fourth Marching Band, Albino, The Mermen, Hamsa Lila, Moo Got 2, Random Rab, David Starfire, Karsh Kale, Cheb I Sabbah, the list goes on!

Riding back from brc currently. The group with me agrees we won't get to sleep tonight without dubstep pounding our ear holes. One says she wants dubstep played at her wedding. I came up with 'more dubstep' to replace more cowbell.

We did like the mashups at fandango though!

Don't hate, but.. (actually go ahead.. lol.. )

I finally heard dubstep, and my god I thought it sucked. So many sets were the most god awful annoying thing I've heard in ages. I'm a huge electronic music lover and listener, but I personally don't get the dubstep thing.

IMHO.

I ran across Space Cowboys when they were parked out by the Dust City Diner one night (Wed?) and again when they were parked behind the Temple (Fri?). Not sure what genre they play since I don't normally listen to electronic music, but I'm told it could be "dirty breaks" or "tech house" or something. No idea, but whatever it was it was making me want to move my butt.

Wednesday night I went out with my friends and my girl and eventually wound up over at Bloop, where we crashed out on their pillows. One of their camp members came out, invited us for a ride on their art car across the playa, bumping out The Polish Ambassador, which I had never heard before, and now am very glad I did.

Dont worry, Dubstep will change and morph in time. I like it in small doses. I find I like every genre of electronic, there are bad and good for each. Im definitely sick of Dubstep as a whole. I miss the more Trancey stuff. I actually prefer to hear the cheeseball techno on art cars, and psytrance freakouts. It reminds me more of Burning Man than dubstep does, since dubstep is so trendy around norcal and I hear it all the time. The alien Whomps and wobbles are definitely cool and fit the Burning Man tapestry, but so does all the other genres. Give it time, the trends will change. Thank God! hahahaa

I really enjoyed most of what I heard at Hookah dome. I ended up at entheon on wednesday night and danced all night to I don't know what. If anyone knows what that style is called, please post and give me a clue. I'm old and clueless :-) I checked out basscamp, but to me it seemed like all growl with no bump. Where's da riddum? I liked opulant palace, but it got a bit monotonous. I vote for some large club devoted to playing old hippy music for me:-) Greateful dead, talking heads, alman brothers, santana, jeez it would be righteous to hear that old stuff out there sometime. I don't dislike techno, but some guitar now and then really is fresh.

I didn't hear nearly enough psytrance this year, bummer.

And yes, Dubstep DOES suck!

The best music I heard all week was on the Robot Heart art car after the Man burn early Sunday from like 4 AM till sunrise. I'm not sure but I think it was DJ's Wolf+Lamb. The music was incredibly ominous and eerie. It was SO awesome! Best night of the week!

My neighbor Jon Jon on 815 and Baghdad played some of the most amazing mash ups I have ever heard. Enya/prodigy, Easy-e/johnny cash and the list went on and on. I missed his show at fandango... maybe one of my biggest regrets.

I enjoy Dubstep and all electronic music but I also enjoy Ella Fitzgerald and Al Green. It would be nice to have some more sound diversity and so my friends and I have been talking about how to accomplish this... So much fun planning!!!

No real good head turning music that made me go "Wow!", just good dance and listening music. However...a kudo to the band I stopped and listened to late one night. The sound was not to good, the singer needed to be heard better. But a big high five for having a theremin in the band. I have some albums with bands using theremins, but I have never seen a band using one.

My hermanos routinely mixed in live Dead through their mondo sound system... which instantly produced dancing, twirling, big smiles, hugs, happy tears, and typical Deadhead conversations. ("Summer 1985 rules, no?"

We also had a blast cranking Tenacious D for a spell, but to avoid confusion we had to explain to the gathering masses that these were NOT the greatest songs in the world. They were just a tribute. You gotta believe it. And I wish you were there. It's just a matter of opinion....

My wife never understood what I saw in DnB or more recently Dubstep. Took her to see Bassnectar at BassCamp. Now she's becoming a basshead as well and we're buying tickets to see Bassnectar when he comes to Richmond, something she'd never have wanted to do before. Life is better, I'm happier and I no longer worry I'll eventually drift away from the music I love... Thanks Burning Man and Bassnectar...

I enjoyed the sexeh bass-heavy stuff Nexus was playing earlier in the week with a live DJ, but have no idea what genre it was. Probably the greatly polarizing dubstep! As a demi-goth, I've got no trouble dancing at half-speed like a Slow Loris in the nocturnal house. Bring it!

Hookahdome also had awesome music; I am a sucker for eastern-influenced house, if that's what it should be called.

. . . And there were some really amazing tunes playing on loop in the 8:00 o'clock porta-potties.

The musical peak of the week for me was late night either Wednesday or Thursday (don't remember which) at Skinny Kitty Teahouse. Random Rab is a long-time favorite of mine for his eclectic "pretty step" grooves. Auditory Canvas followed with an intricate bassy soundscape accented by an ethereal female vocalist who was just lovely. These guys are my new favorite. :)

Bassnectar, aka "The Prince of the Playa" has become such a prima donna. I have witnessed his antics out on the playa for years now. His music has gotten worse and worse over the years. The crap he pulled at BM this year was completely unacceptable, missing his Root Society set because, "His soundcard wasn't working." Then he showed up at Nexus 20 minutes later and played? Lorin has lost his relevance to the community and I am done with him.

For new music that I have discovered, Dilemn from France freakin rocks! He is such a nice humble guy too. I am sick of the dj's that make it in the music industry because of their presence at Burning Man, only to shun the community that made them who they are. Bassnectar is the first name that comes to mind in that category, I hope he never comes back to the playa.

oh wow, thanks for that. Checked them out on their myspace page, after 3 songs I was convinced and bought their album from their site. Haven't stopped listening to it since! (got me through the whiteout here on ePlaya quite nicely).
