LOL, did you start this in our camp? Tawnya was talking about this one day and I just shook my head. She did have some nice picked peppers.
Not sure if anything will replace bacon, though...

Lol.. nah that was all Tawnya. She got me going on the idea though. Last night we were talking about having a pickle food truck in Berkley. I told her to make a giant pickle art car and bring it to the playa next year and give away all kinds of pickled things. Love that chick.
..and.. yeah.. how could I forget pickled green beans! The asparagus was new this year to me too and daaaaaaamn.. mighty tasty. I've been on a pickled okra kick since I've been back though. I'm on my third jar in a week!

pickled bacon?
I'd try it!
I've actually pickled cubes of cheddar and jalapeno jack before. It doesn't have the longevity that veggies do but it was delicious!
Yes Mark and I will start the Pickle-Tastic Pickle-Mobile!

We had a girl gift sweet & sour pickled mango to Bootie. That was heaven.
Pickles have always been "bacon" to me; I never go with less than two jars of traditional pickles for personal usage, more to share.
Next years I'm bringing pickles eggs as well, and probably some kim chee. I was really craving kim chee on Friday.
There are some pickling classes in SF, I need to do research and find out where. As long as it's traditional brine-based pickling, I'm in. If it involves vinegar as the main ingredient.... *blech*

Now I'm really curious about pickling some unusual items. Fruit could be good, the mango got me thinking.
The pickled meat would be my first experiment, bacon of course. Since I'm a newb at pickling, I'll have to start with the usual stuff (until I get the hang of it).

Mmm... kimchee... haven't had that in awhile. There's a local Japanese restaurant that has a yakiniku setup, serving kimchee as a side. Nothing compares to the kimchee I had in South Korea, that stuff was ZOMG HOT!

I found a recipe for pickled watermelon in one of Chuck's mom's cookbooks, published circa 1950 or somewhere around there.

Wow zomg, picked watermelon would be very interesting. Reminds me of some random Burning Man moment when someone introduced me to grilled watermelon...

Nothing super special, you just slice the watermelon into 1-inch wedges, throw it on the grill, heat it up until it's warm with a little bit of seering. Tastes amazing!

Had it! On playa, of course, about three years ago. Somebody late at night stopped me, and said "try this, it's pickled pineapple", I did, and loved it!

Ever try beef bacon? That's almost pickeled bacon...if you consider corned beef pickeled meat.
