maps for burning man 2004 available
hello all!
i posted some maps (including the BRC map seen on SFGate today) for this year's Burning Man 'Vault of Heaven' 2004. they are available here:
http://www.giantmonster.com/burn2004/
this year there is 11 (count 'em) concentric streets to accommodate the masses (named for the the planets including the newest planet, Sedna). very nice! last year they added an additional street as well. getting crowded ...
anyway, please enjoy!

Where to camp?
Outside of center camp (since you cannot camp there) the 2 places that are the place to be are at (this year) "Mercury & 3:36" and "Mercury & 8:24" - OK, I know they are village spots, but still...technopatra wrote:One reason that I know of - the Project generally waits until the last possible minute to post the map because the second people see it, they start requesting specific addresses for placement, which are nearly impossible to accomodate.
There may be others.
Also the other places that should be interesting is whatever is displayed out at "2500ft & 1:12" and "2500ft & 10:48"!

Time
Is there an artistic or conceptual significance this year for the time reference in hours and minutes as a map reference, i.e. 00:00?
Art cred: Georgie Boy 2011: www.mutantvehicle.com/georgie_boy.htm ; Ein Hammer 2010; Fluffer 2009; Zsu Zsu 2008; U-Me 2007; Mantis 2006; MiniMan and Pikes Of Paranoia 2005; Time Machine Mutant Vehicle 2004. www.MutantVehicle.com
Re: Time
I don't think so. I think they always do that. Last year the streets that went from 2:00pm to 10:00pm also had names. The clock reference seems to be there so you can navigate more easily. Use the Man as the center of the clock and you can see where you are in relation to him and know your location. Of course, after the man burns you are completely lost!Mister Jellyfish Mister wrote:Is there an artistic or conceptual significance this year for the time reference in hours and minutes as a map reference, i.e. 00:00?

I'm guessing that you've got some sort of astrological reason for picking these areas as hotspots?bdongray wrote: Outside of center camp (since you cannot camp there) the 2 places that are the place to be are at (this year) "Mercury & 3:36" and "Mercury & 8:24" - OK, I know they are village spots, but still...

I'm personally torn between Venus (love, beauty, art), Earth, Jupiter, and Uranus. But I really just can't wait to see the scatalogical combinations that the radials create with the latter.
BTW - what do you mean, 2500 ft? 2500 ft past Sedna?

Re: Where to camp?
Just watch out for Micheal Moore Camp at Mercury and 9:11. Still, I guess about 3 am on Friday the "Raving Redneck Battalion" of the Chupacabras will show up with bullhorns and begin heckling. Bring popcorn.bdongray wrote: Outside of center camp (since you cannot camp there) the 2 places that are the place to be are at (this year) "Mercury & 3:36" and "Mercury & 8:24" - OK, I know they are village spots, but still...

No - 2500ft from the center (ie from the man).Skyler wrote:I'm guessing that you've got some sort of astrological reason for picking these areas as hotspots?bdongray wrote: Outside of center camp (since you cannot camp there) the 2 places that are the place to be are at (this year) "Mercury & 3:36" and "Mercury & 8:24" - OK, I know they are village spots, but still...

FYI The significance of those spots are based on some mathematical geometry of BRC and some weird co-incidences - or maybe someone planned the numerology
