Comfort Suites Fernley Smoking Penalty - anyone else?

Post by ConnieH » Mon Sep 20, 2010 10:56 am

Just curious if any other burners got popped with a $150.00 smoking penalty on their stay at Comfort Suites? We didn't smoke in the room, but after being closed up in the car for 7 hours there's no doubt we, and our belongings, smelled of smoke. We left our room pretty damn clean, and all I could smell as we left was my lotion and boyfriend's body spray. What fries me is they did not notify me afterwards, just charged the $150 penalty to my credit card. Maybe that is their policy, but I think it stinks...and after calling to complain I was told the manager who inspected my room would call me back - nothing. I'm mailing a letter lodging a formal compaint today.

Just dispute the charge on your credit card.. simple as that. CC companies tend to side with their customers, especially if you have detailed information.

I do not smoke, never have, and the stench of cigarette smoke bothers me quite a bit. I dare say you answered your own question -- you brought the problem with you into the room, even if you did not generate more smoke while you were there.

I count on truly smoke free rooms to be comfortable when I travel, and I humbly ask all smokers to keep this in mind. Thank you!
:D

Just call the CC company, don't write. Takes 10 mins and you're done and money refunded.

ou brought the problem with you into the room,
Truly a condescending, chicken shit response.

By your norms it would appear that people driving through area of Nevada that have been inundated by forest fires would (and should) receive the same monetary penalty.

Fuck that.

To the OP: I'd also send a letter of protest to the Nevada/Reno offices of the Better Business Bureau.

I didn't say it, Ray; the OP did. And I feel confident she was not talking about forest fire smoke.

Again, thank you for participating in a polite discussion.

Connie, don't leave any room in this situation for ambiguity. If you did not smoke in this room, simply inform the hotel that no one in your party smokes, and that no one smoked in this room while you were renting it. There is no need for "well, we smoke, but we didn't do it in the room and maybe our clothes smelled of smoke......". If you didn't smoke in the room, then keep things cut and dried!
You can write a letter to the credit company to the same effect and let the situation drop.
If you really did smoke in this non-smoking room, then they have to pay someone to de-stink the place and maybe you SHOULD pay this penalty. No one really wants to check into a hotel and find their room stinks from the stale stench of old cigarettes.

Yes. And go to the uppermost person on the corporate ladder you can find. Do a little research and get real names of regional managers, even CEO's if you can, then call them as if you have known them forever and describe your problem. My brother once had a famous pen company buy him a new suit just because a pen had leaked in his pocket - he just got hold of the right name and phone number.
