Raw Food Diet-- Sorry another food topic!
Raw Food Diet-- Sorry another food topic!
I am revisiting the idea of incorporating more raw food into my diet. I did Fit For Life many years ago and liked how I felt with careful food combining and lots of raw food. I am now looking into expanding my raw food intake considerably but am concerned about being able to have any on the playa.
Was wondering what others' experiences are. I've read about the dry ice cooler switch. Was also thinking of bringing dry foods and sprouting or reconstituting. Has anyone sprouted (seeds) on the playa and how did you keep them at the right temperature? Also any suggested recipes using dehydrated food?
Thanks.

friends of mine tried sprouting things last year and had a bitch of a time with the food safety issue- couldn't control the temperature properly, and even though they rinsed them regularly apparently everyone who ate them felt ill...
as for raw food incorporation, maybe do some research on what produce peoples in similar climates have; like if they have a lot of carrots in their diets, then you will know that you probably wont have problems with carrots... etc.

I've actually seen somebody pull up with a freezer full of meat, looking for a place to plug it in.

i've been into raw foods now for a little while, and we have found some great receipes!
the only down side to "raw", is the prep time, and to tell you the truth, unless your really well equiped with a solid place to prep,-(low dust, etc.) i'd have to say that the less work and fussing you have to do with food the better out there. but good idea if you have an rv or something.

I have just recently finished a one month cleanse (HealthForce) and feel great... Being that you could eat basically nothing except raw food.. even nuts were considered bad... I've found some great things that I"ll be bringing to the playa this year...also I just graduated last Dec. from Culinary School.
Should work well just in a cooler...or over dry ice
Hummus
dehydrated fruits and veggies
All sorts of salsas
Raw Wrap*cooler not frozen*+ (Fresh collard greens for the wrap, shreaded beets, carrots, fresh corn, jicama, nuts, use your favorite raw spread to hold everything in place I love hummus!)
Soaked cashews and almonds in coconut milk then blend with apples and keep cool for refreshing treat ---kinda like a raw cold sweet oatmeal sensation except no glut feel :)
Spring rolls (bring rice paper wraps and just soak in water and throw in your favorite fresh veggies)
Hope these few tips work out... and you can always stock up on fresh juiced vegs and juices and keep cool throughout the week...
If you'd like We could meet up on the playa and have a raw feast!!!

Cool tips everyone. I was thinking of freezing some juice and putting it in the "freezer." Hoping to serve juice for lunch on Wed. or Thur. Raw feast sounds fun!mer993 wrote:Hope these few tips work out... and you can always stock up on fresh juiced vegs and juices and keep cool throughout the week...

Sugar free alternatives to Gatoraid
With the new diet, I am avoiding cane sugar. I also don't want sugar substitutes as I am allergic to most. Has anyone found good substitutes for hydration solutions that don't include sugar? Is drinking water and getting enough salt sufficient? I've always had at least some electrolyte replacement type drink each year. I am also going for 13 days so I need to be careful and not end up dehydrated.
