I have a job. I have decent writing skills. My spelling skills are shaky, thank goodness for spellcheck.
I also am interested in less formal styles of writing. Some of it I can date to childhood, reading advertising copy and noting that they had sentence fragments with capitals and periods. (I didn't phrase it that way, of course, I was a little prim, but not that stilted as a child!)
I view being on the boards as a good place to loosen certain rules of more formal writing. Of course, I can do the other, and find editors for input if it's that important. And I have a pretty good idea of when to "code shift."
On the other hand, I do have trouble with some of the simplified spelling and other shortcuts.
I think that right now we are going into a big shift in written communication. I don't think that everything is going away, spaces between words and capital/lower case differentiation for instance being far too useful.
I guess I have a bias towards being a descriptive grammarian, rather than a prescriptive one.

yeah, you're getting harshed on. Sad to see, as this is in the tips and tricks thread where we are supposed to offer help, then Snark. And yer new, young and eager. everything most of these Eplayans are not, so a bit of the ol sour grapes bit is to be expected.

Massage; bring a wide assortment of oils, and baby wipes (make some home made and save $) a mister (herbicide sprayer in Garden stores) is a good thing to have on hand to wipe down the table. Other fun things to add to a massage parlor is Latex body paints, Nail polish, and a foot washing station. throw in some tunes and and a Shade structure and you're set. of course you are looking to co-opt with others so being able to set up with them will share the burden of having to bring all of those Items solo.

Thanks in advance and I hope you make it to the playa, we need more people bringing things. bringing their skills.

Easy with the Lysol Water, I personally hate the stuff, and the Chemical company responsible for it. and I'm sure some other folk would feel similar. rubbing alcohol/Water and a bit of essences oil; lemon, mint and eucalyptus are nice, fresh zingy feel. rose water is also nice.

That's very mature. May I reiterate my previous comment: "...keep working on those massage skills."

A massage in Lysol by someone with a temper problem sounds wonderful.

Don't call me ma'am, I work for a living. Well, not so much. But ma'am makes me sound old and while I am technically oldish, I ain't going to listen to that from whippersnappers who drive their damn Neons on my lawn and ruin my grass. Put some pants on, hippie!

What was I saying? Oh, call me Auntie.

1. You don't need to belong to no steeeeenking camp.
2. Bone up on your camping skills. Start by going someplace fairly near civilization so you can run and get the crap you forgot. Then go someplace a bit removed from other folks, maybe the hill country in Georgia or something but it is getting late in the year now for that. Just practice camping. You might want to try going to something like Transformus in North Carolina. It is *sort* of like Burning Man but not exactly. Many of he people haven't ever been to the playa and they apparently seem to have ritualized certain aspects of what they believe happens out there. So take it with a grain of salt.
3. About 50% of the people at the event are first timers. Most of them survive the event, so will you.
4. Shade is your friend. It should be the first thing up, last thing down.
5. Yes, it gets hot, but it can also get cold.
6. Yes, it is a desert but it can also rain.
7. Be prepared for anything.
8. Don't volunteer for shit your first year. Explore. Decide if you want to come back or not. Meet people. Make friends. Collect ideas for next time.
9. Buy a Hudson sprayer and learn how to bathe with it.
10. That which does not kill you makes you stronger.

My burner friends will be able to get along in an earthquake or other natural disaster much better than most of my non-burner friends because we have the materials to make shelter that will stand up to the elements and can live without the creature comforts for a week or two. We can bathe with a Hudson sprayer. We have shade. We have large coolers that work for days. We can drive rebar.

Approach it like a wilderness camping trip with otter pops.
