It is a challenge
Whatever the announced opening time is, you will generate a huge line, which the playa, gate staff, road and towns of Gerlach and Empire could not readily handle. So they open early, but of course if people start depending on this it breaks down again.
The only other alternative would be to sometimes come down hard on people who arrive early to the playa. Such as hand out cards in Nixon and Cedarville starting at 10pm, and anybody who shows up without a card or a good excuse goes to D lot until all the people with cards have been processed into the city. Of course then people would start crowding in Nixon, you have to do a different system of enforcement every year if you want to make it work.
Or do something to avoid having a land rush. Do the land rush on the web -- every ticket comes with a code, and the camp leader gets all the codes and puts them in the computer before the event, and that governs how much space you can get (with some slop for late additions), and then you grab it on the computer using a lottery or similar to decide who goes first. You can have more space per person if you camp further out, or willingly wait longer to take space.
Of course, the problem with this is having people really know where their borders are. With placed theme camps it's hard enough in spite of the flags and the placer escorting you. One approach would be to have fixed sizes and flags every 25' along the streets, and give people GPS coordinates and let them count distance, flags and most of all find the blocks where, if you stand in the center and let your GPS stabilize, it is closest to your number. But there would still be fights because folks made a mistake.

BRC is still laid out with hardware-store chains and an antique railroad transit that needs calibrating, same as the last decade. Have fun with your GPS.

No, you don't say it, the theme camp leader (or at least that member of the theme camp who interacts with the ptb) says "I need 4 early entry passes" and then gets them and assigns them to trusted camp members who will, regardless of any parties attended, put up the infrastructure so it is in place on Monday when everybody else arrives.weirdscience wrote:so say im going with a theme camp that wants to go there the saturday before would the themecamp leader get a EAP ?
Ditto with art early entries.
Nobody just accepts any random person's insistence that they have to be there for some silly reason.
