I am slowly wrapping myself around this theme. Burning Man sparked amazing changes in my life, yet again this year, and perhaps by the time 2011 BRC is in front of me,I will know what my right of passage is, but I find whenever I try to force anything too hard as far as relating to the theme, it doesn't work out, yet afterward, I reflect and see how the theme played into my existence.
Perhaps it would be truly embracing bringing someone else in, and not resenting their ignorance to the BRC world, but rather, being comfortable enough with my understanding of it to be tolerant of someone learning to swim with the sharks, so to speak.
Or maybe it will be something more personal, for me. Burning Man is like this omnipotent parent to me, teaching me lessons, sometimes embracing me, sometimes scolding me, and always nurturing me.
BTW does anyone know where I can submit my idea for burning man 2012's theme?

If you can subliminally enter it into Larry Harvey's reading list you golden. Otherwise, shit out of luck.

Are you sure you're not thinking about that Flash Gordon movie from the '80s?

Hmmm... I like this idea... we'll have to include it as part of the Apokiliptika DoomDome fun and educational activities as a rite of passage. Heh heh heh...
Dr. Timex is in. She does the dick dock... (Since we're pseudo-Sovietski, it could also be the Swatch Vrach...)
Lessee... where'd I put those hedge clippers... No, better, the 4" chisel, anvil, and 2# sledge.
Hope my aim and eyesight gets better...

But Im going to try like hell to make it out there for 2011. And with what I've gone through over the past few years, a rite of passage sounds about perfect for me.
Not that I will be paying much attention to the theme when Im out there, of course.
I'm sort of in Austin and San Antonio and put off going for a long time for a variety of reasons. I decided to go this year. I can't really aford it and it's not a terribly smart idea, but I'm going anyway.
I moved from Brooklyn to San Antonio for all the wrong reasons and feel very stuck here, and unhappy.
This is my first Burning Man, so the theme is apt. I think there are other people from Austin going as well.

Jesus fuckhole, what the fuck was that?

it's cool to see what i posted back in october, because in thee short amount of time that has passed, I have come to completely relate to the theme. My goodness, Burning Man has been like a father to me. It is a right of passage.
My God, Burning Man...I'll forget, and then I'll remember. It is so good to me.

theme
for me it means earning my place on the Playa. Last year was my first year and i was welcomed with open arms. I really know what people meant when they said welcome home. But i really didn't earn my spot.
Somebody came up to me on burn night and they looked distressed, they asked me where center camp was from where we were standing and i honestly didn't know. I told them i didn't know and they thanked me and walked away into the dust. I have such a deep regret for not walking with them and helping them find center camp. After they walked away i was so let down because that was my oppourtunity to be a burner and help somebody and i beefed it to party.
This year i'm not going to be a burner, not a party monster. That is my rite of passage.
