A frat house would be a great theme camp. Did I hear someone say TOGA PARTY? How about about "double secret probation"? A keg of cheap beer in a beer fridge would be a nice touch, with "Louie Louie" blaring from the speakers. Maybe we can channel the spirit of John Belluschi.
Best Regards,
Leo

Only if you could lure the "frat boys" away from the rest of the playa for the duration.
Sorry, I feel sorta snarky about this (although you can find me making comments on the idea elsewhere.) John Belushi and Animal House are pretty main stream. I am rapidly turning into one of those cranks who rails against changes at the burn. How pathetic.
Now I must design a rite of passage for that.

Much as I love that movie (it premiered on my birthday, too!), I can't see it as being appropriate for Burning Man. It's symbolic of the antics of one subset of default world conditions, and because of that movie (and any of the wannabes that followed), there's nothing terribly interesting about it, or individual about it, or expressive about it, imho.
It would be an unhealthy incursion of defaultia that I'd think BM is better off without.

Please.
A camp based on a 1970's "cult" film? Whats next, Rocky Horror on the playa??
Oh, wait. They already do Rocky Horror on the playa. Have for years.
If you're going to do it, do it BIG.

for the love of.. we need to squash this frat/sorority idea debacle that's been floating around immediately. coming from a person who sold my soul for a whole semester in a frat before regaining my sanity, there is NOTHING good, funny, or positive that can come from even a mockumentary of this institution of beelzebub herself.

Yet another makeover comedy...
I suppose there's a deep psychological reason we want to see that over and over again, but I'm just going to blame it on our species being composed of idiots.

I first read that as "composted". It even rang true.theCryptofishist wrote:Yet another makeover comedy...

Cinderella, huh? That's an archetype and here we go with the Freud and the Jung and the ... ah hell, I can't do psycho-babble this morning. I excel at it when I'm awake and functioning.

C'mon Josh, don't be too hard on the frat boys. After all, Frank our vintner at BDC&WB and I were frat brothers (ZBT - UCSB) and that's how we met and have been fast friends for over 35 years. Without that connection our Village would never have evolved. It was Frank who suggested we come back a second year and add a wine bistro, and the rest is history. So SOME frat boys are the good guys; not all the time I know, but in our case it's true.

Maybe this camp could use Jellyfish's discarded duct-taped gerbils.

Should culture jamming be appropriate for the context in which it is found? Maybe what you just gave, however unintentionally, is a reason for somebody to do what the OP has in mind. Burning Man has generated its own brand of orthodoxy, with its own expectations, and perhaps it's time those expectations got subverted.Tin Halo wrote:I can't see it as being appropriate for Burning Man.
When in doubt, hit the ignore key. You'll seldom miss anything worth reading, and your blood pressure will thank you.

giant cake-shaped art car emblazoned with "Eat Me?" I dunno, I kinda like the idea of complete originality, to the extent possible, and not just something borrowed from Defaultia. I'm probably the only one who never thought Thunderdome was worth a shit simply because it was a cut-n-paste from defaultia.
