I'll admit I skipped to the end hoping to experience Darwinism in action but alas was slightly disappointed in the lack of screams of anquish and writhing in pain.Roberto Dobbisano wrote:http://www.archive.org/download/ptc1978-11-18.flac16
Good thing there's a lossless version for all the audiophiles.

I've seen him twice. I've talked to him 2 times fewer.
2 problems with being on top...
(1) You don't get a chance to talk to average people, as they seem to stay away...
and
(2) Your minions chase everyone lower than the minions away from you.
It's really fucked in a serious way - you get these "Oooh, he really hates you, you fucked this or that up, he's really mad"... but he knows nothing about it.
I attribute it to job fear. They're afraid if an outsider gets close, they'll be out of favor. It's bullshit politics, plain and simple.
Personally, I'd love to talk with him for a while... just to see what HIS ideas are. I bet he's brilliant when it comes to knowing how to deal with crowds!!!

I've met him a couple of times (benefit of walking around with Adrian, "Mr. Piss Clear" and a long-time Burner himself), talked to him once.
Seemed like a nice guy. He didn't come off at all pompous like the official statements would have you believe, but then again he was hanging out in the Piss Clear tent our last year, having a beer at 11pm before Gate opened. It's not like he was on stage.

What are they gonna say about him?
What are they gonna say? That he was
a kind man? That he was a wise man?
That he had plans, man? That he had
wisdom? Bullshit, man!

Fuck the Minions! Just go up to him and say hello... that's what I've always done. I get the feeling that he enjoys talking to non-minions. I've got a deep respect for the guy! He doesn't seem to let all the stupid politics get to him.Bay Bridge Sue wrote:I've seen him twice. I've talked to him 2 times fewer.

Mixed opinions here. i have never met him. the videos of him talking seem to me like he is not the brightest bunch of bananas on the tree. he started something i love, i don't like how he handled the whole jiffy lube art thing, i don't like the exclusivity of first camp, i can understand wanting to be secluded after how many fucking years of this thing, he certainly is not the one with all of the answers or a guru or anything. i guess i just think he is a normal guy who started something that evolved on its own, and now is its spokesperson. ehhhh. wouldn't mind having a drink with the guy but don't know what we would talk about.

I pretty much agree with what you said, except for:
I think that various people contributed hugely to the shape of the burn, and the focus on Harvey loses that history.curiousgnate wrote:he started something i love,

Okay, okay, thanks for the appreciation. But you gotta understand I'm going to run away before we have some sort of hippie group hug stuff going on.

I have to say that Larry comes across in his interviews as someone who is well read with a fairly high degree of intelligence. He certainly cops far less attitude than some of the crusties on ePlaya.
I wonder how he spends his burns. In six years I've yet to catch a glimpse of the man. I spoke with Michael Mikel (sp?) once briefly and he was a real gentleman.
