Imaging the line forming...next !
Seriously though my husband joked about my bringing a machine this year. I sewed right up until the burn and brought a sewing kit with me haha.
supervision would be a good idea.

I bring black thread and some needles, and lots of safety pins.

I wouldn't want to expose my machine to the elements and random users.

Costume Debrief

Post by EmilyD » Wed Sep 29, 2010 11:56 am

Ditto...I might consider a thrift store junker to bring but my 1980s Sears Kenmore...never!

I'm wondering if everyone wore all the costumes they brought this year.

Surprisingly I did not. I came back with three but they were for colder weather and after Tuesday they just weren't necessary.

Our coats with lights on them worked worked great for walking, not so great for biking. They were too long but our bikes had so many lights on them we didn't more than a headlamp on our bodies.

The thin cotton dresses I made (with coordinating bloomers) were the most perfect thing I brought. They were comfortable, festive, and I had fresh one for each day.

The parasol I spent so many hours covering I never used once! Big brimmed hats were the best, with tie downs DEFINITELY!

How about you?

Well EmilyD, keep all your unused shit packed so next year there will be almost no effort whatsoever! Did you ever think of that smarty pants? (or bloomer pants)

I wore all of my hats and gave some away , wore my tutu and matching halter top and adored my husband for wearing his tutu only of course ;)
I loved the halter tops I threw together at the last minute,, more of those to gift for next year for sure. and I totally agree on the cotton dress thing I brought a couple and loved them for showers and hanging around camp.

Shambala, I don't know about you but I wear costumes all year round so nothing stays packed for long. ;-)

Just shirt cock it. No one will know it's your virgin burn that way, plus you'll stay nice and cool during the day.. not to mention mad points with the playa hunnies.

I didn't get to wear all my costumes this year. I decided the porta potties were to gross to wear my tutu into, I had enough trouble making sure the sleeves of my coveralls didn't hit the floor. I usually wore comfy clothes during the day and saved dressing up for at night. There were a couple of nights where i was so cold i swear the air felt arctic (ok i was trippin) but now i understand the need for the big furry coats...

Halloween 2010

Post by EmilyD » Sat Oct 16, 2010 3:44 pm

Hey Y'all! Who's got costume plans for Halloween? It is my personal favorite holiday but I'm having trouble getting inspired this year. Toss in your ideas...maybe something will help jump start me and others.

Well, we'll skip over "The Man" and over "Paul Addis" even faster.

Dress as a teapot and come as the "Wellspring of Modern Politics."
A tiger.
The blown Macando well. (Yeah, out of date.)
Its sister spirit The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
A vaulting horse.

Um, I'm not doing so well...

hahahah oh these are great conversation starters for parties. I would seriously consider the teapot as I live in Liberalville.

Probably the garbage patch would be easiest.

My sister once went as a Q-Tip. It was genius actually. She had a pale blue leotard, and tights, and put pillow stuffing (fiberfill) around her ankles and on her head.

I just heard about a 2nd party we may attend, larger and louder than the one we're going to the following night. This ups the need for a kick ass costume. Inspiration where are you?

Being entirely too hrmphy to motivate and make something new, I'm going to do the unicorn or Simpson's crazy cat lady, Eleanor.

Maybe zombie up the unicorn, I am so great with zombie FX make-up...

And Zombies are very "IN" this year! ;-)

Hmmmm the previous two suggestions are making me think something Palinesque + Zombish, nahhh too obvious. Sigh! Still nothing catching my fancy.

I think I'd like to dress up as "Irony" because that seems to be the most current thing in our lives right now...big time. I'm not sure how to manifest Irony in a physical image though...ideas?
