there are a bunch of us coming from the North of England..

We'll probably be flying a bunch of tibetan prayer flags around our campers and i'm doing a big flag pole with my Roman Cavalry units symbol (Equites Taifali - I do re-enactment Cavalry) and one with the Detroit Gothic 'D'

So come check us out and say hi...

Or even if you want some people to hook up with - you can meet us in San Francisco - we'll be there at least 10 days before the event

And my mother and I were just having a discussion about re-enactors and tea party costume and where on the web do they find their patterns.

edited for grammar

I'm not a reenactor, and I hate the tea party, but I can send you some links crypto. Here's a good one...

It was more of an interesting sociological question to muse upon, than an actual need to find a purveyor.

Well, that's where they get their "patterns." Its too bad the two are now linked, by some stupid politician. I've nothing against dress up...in SS uniforms, but if your a politician...not the best move.

Just so long as you don't start suggesting that tea partiers are all frustrated burners, because they don't know about the burn and if we were to invite them up to the event they'd no longer feel the burning need to dress that way in public.

(Yes, I know there is an overlap between burners and tea partiers. All sorts of politics are represented on the playa. It's a toss off joke, not an in depth political analysis.)

PS - By the Sword are pretty rubbish, mostly Hanwei mass produced blades for the 'look pretty' market, unless you ask them to get a sword made directly by Paul Chen.. some of it is meh, some ok - gotta know what your buying if you want to use if for something like this:

Is that a Berkasova helmet? Never purchesed from By The Sword, although the have a sallet I really really want! Hessen antiques sells excellent repro pickelhaubes.

When a Roman says "Hoping to burn" I immediately start looking for the violin.

Is that a Berkasova helmet?
Not the Berkasovo Helm (but well done for being in the correct period)

Its the Deir El Medineh helm from 4th Century Northern Egypt

Maybe a helmet parade at BM wouldn't go amiss..

Or an SCA 'hit everyone as hard as you can with foam weapons tourney' Camp

These guys are great for accurate and non-accurate, but high quality prosthetic armours that would be great for costumes (not cheap however!)

I wonder if Thunderdome allows armor?

We've thought of hosting a pvc tilting contest on bicycles.
