I've taken to saying "O! the ironing!" instead of "Oh! the irony." But that doesnt' help much.

Hm. Head to toe silver with some sort of magnetic-y something to stick magnets to?

Or buy a bunch of dollhouse irons, glue them in an "E" shape and wear that.

Make it REALLY bad, get some sort of iron get-up then act like you've taken Ecstasy...IRON ON E! Just say it fast.

I started last night on "sexy space unicorn," but I'm already tired of it.

perhaps if you got a letter E and botched up the ironing job, squinched up the letter, or burned the shirt with an iron shape burn. or all of the above.

hahahahah! This idea will go really well with the mister's costume idea. He says he's going as Baudelaire so he can read some dark poems...WTF? Why so "literal" ;-) You'll never catch me doing a costume that requires readin & riting!

And not to repeat burningman praise or anything, but it is a place where you can dress as you choose.

You too EmilyD, especially for starting this "Oh so mellow thread" Ahhhh.... :D

Does anyone know how to bake paint onto metal bottle caps :?: :?

Actually, these are Champagne bottle tops with the wire basket part but similar to above.

I have always left the graphics as is, but for BM gifts I'd like to change that.
I think I can sand or steel wool or use paint stripper to get to bare metal

I make interesting trinkets with these and have about 200 ready to use.

I entered some in an art show, many years ago and won...the show was for art made from recycled materials. I sign them..haha. (bragger :lol: :oops: ) Each one takes about an hour or two to create.
I think It'll add another hour if I strip and paint them.

I'm thinking I can use my oven (yikes) or maybe a heat gun to bake the paint on. I might have access to a kiln buuut, hm seems there's a better easier route.

I'll continue to google/youtube this but if anyone has any knowledge or ideas please let me know.

Baking can be very tricky and it seems like you are just trying to get it durable enough so it won't chip if it clinks against other necklaces.
There is no need to strip off existing paint or coatings. If you use a good spray primer on the caps and let them cure for at least a week and then spray them with a good enamel paint and let that cure at room temperature for at least 10 days, you should have a good solid, durable finish. Paint is so cheap, that you can make small groups of different colors if you wish. Hobby shops sell tiny bottles of enamel paint used for models etc. called Testers paint. They are small, cheap and come in a zillion colors.
If you start these now, you will have an extra 10 months for the surfaces and painted decorations to cure even more.

Hi Sham...huh, I forgot about testers..and yea, endless colors!!!!!!!!
I just tore my basement apart and found a variety of sanding stuff...it was super easy to sand the graphics off with a sanding sponge...(1 min each)...2 done as a trial...the metal has a shiny but mildly rough/grabby feel, this I can do...(some, Like Dom Perignon/Crystal are too beautiful to sand btw...no "adverts" & they look like Cameos/Fine Art Images) I don't want to say what the trinkets are yet..heh heh...(need to figure out how to post a photo) but it's doubtful they'll be necklaces (but perhaps maybe some, you gave me an idea) :idea:
I can paint BM artwork by hand and maybe 2011 and scribe my signature underneath (can't find my metal scribe! arg..sharpened nail/screw driver perhaps?!) seems you have solved this one for me, thanks! :D

I do know there is a way to paint and kiln bake on glass bottles but I have a few projects going and maybe over time I will meet a burner who knows & can teach the method and can bake it on the metal with a kiln (no glass here, just mentioned the bottles as example) I am a perfectionist and will push this farther just so you know...but yes, 10 months (huh? only 10 months!!!!) should be enough time to do a non-rush job (I do not want to do a rush job!)

I'm curious..is there a Rites of Passage image that could fit on a bottle cap :?:

(also did the hat pick this theme to get the frats on board and NOT flood the weekend :?: :? maybe this is best discussed at Bar2 or 3..hmm)

So, hmmm is there a 2d image that might fit the theme small enough for a bottle cap?? Otherwise it'll be the man and the year or just the man...it'll work out either way but ROP theme is stumping me! rop to pass the 25th year or whaa :?: :?

You could do an image of the MAN starting his period. That's a rite of passage ;-O

There is a juvenile offender school/prison close to Yerington, NV called Right of Passage. Don't know if this helps anyone with costumes or theme ideas, just putting it out here fyi...

Oh, this is supposed to be my "happy place" hahaha...you two are scarring me!

i was wondering is the hat trying to get the frats on board?
i heard rumor UNR? may have changed class schedule to accommodate the burn! wow! T or F? huh?

the Reno regional mail list actually asked burners to help them
there is a LOT of connection...highly respectible with the Reno area civic peeps
i cannot go there sorry! maybe a gentle parody but those poor delinquents!
they need our help! :cry:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
went to my first ever decomp, Reno, it was a blast! saw dear old co workers who had to be helped when they saw me...thought they were seeing a ghost! one asked like 5xs and had to examine my face, up close, to believe...hahah he's a good young adult too...funny really nice group i used to work with, ya know! technos tho,,,,they dragged me on stage for a bit...was hilarious!
saw many more dear old freinds too
met some awesome new serious burners and they took us all out to eat...very very fun!
decomps can be nice...people dress up very HOTT etc...and beyond...even the burgins were sweet hearts...and dressed up...
Reno was 8pm to dawn! and then some...cause we went out to eat ya know...then got a room(s) lol
I'm sure each decomp has it's edge...ok enough gushing...hahaha
so, hm...maybe a man and just a "ROP" and the year...very collegiate, yuk!
or maybe good, not sure yet...
remember these suckers are a bottle cap! tiny! oh and they are NOT suckers...
~nts~ keep on brain storming ...hmmmm...ROP....fuck I hate this theme! :twisted:
I just made my first tutu. it's just the "tie a ribbon around your waste and start tieing on tulle" kind of tutu. but it's purple and i put some strings of light pink beads on it too. and it is VERY poofy. i cried. i feel so silly - and elated. then silly to be so elated? i'm 50 for goodness sakes. i made a tutu... i think i'll make a lacy one next :-)
Nah don't feel silly. I am just relearning to sew and I felt elated when I got my first vest done. Now I just have to make someone wear it. I never thought I would really care for the faux fur look but damn, that stuff is soft. Now I am going to make one of the dogs a burningman coat... :lol:
Well, at least that's a lot less fabric cost than a greyhound or Great Dane.*
