Post by engineer2012 » Thu Oct 21, 2010 1:03 pm

April 25 2010 I first heard about Burning Man
April 26 Visited the Burning Man site
And ever since there is not a day that Burning Man is on my mind.
I am from the Netherlands and will be joining you in the desert in 2012 (saving money already). Meanwhile I'll be learning from you all on eplaya and the site.

There are lots of burners in Europe, and I suspect more than a few in the Lowlands. If you're wanting to contact someone closer and actually meet up in the next 22 months.

Hi, I admire folks who make it to BRC from so far away, it makes my trip seem like a breeze in comparison. Good Luck!

Thank you all for the welcome. There is no regional in the Netherlands, in Belgium there is, also in Germany I think. I'll check. In 2012 two of my friends will be joining as well. Starting to make plans already. And read a lot.

I can attest to the existence of German burners. I don't quite owe my life to them, but when I was close to that border, two came through specatcularly.

I owe so much to so many...

Welcome to eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Thank you Trilobyte. Indeed hope to meet some people who are active on this fotum.
Talk to them, listen to stories of years past. Share the feeling. I have read a lot here, and I am wondereing, how will it be. The city, the people, the amazing art, the experiance, etc. Some say, one should have been there to really know.
And I really want to know.

You mention architecture in your signature line. Are you a structural engineer? If so, you may wind up aligning yourself with someone building Large Things in BRC. (If you want.) :D

Hi Savannah and Elliot.
I'm not an architect however much interested in achitecture. I'm a piping material engineer, working for an EPCM company.
And yes, I will indeed enjoy the structures people build in BRC. What I have seen on the photos, really amazing. To see that for real will be a treat for the eye.
Would that be an option? Helping with building some of the structures? I plan to arrive on opening day.

No, I was thinking of large projects, both art and shelters, that need structural engineering design-work long before the event.

But never mind that. No enthusiastic burner need be bored during the week of TTITD!

Welcome Home!

When you get to the playa, you can check with playa info to see who needs volunteers on the spot. That way you can decide if you feel like helping, or if you need more time to adjust, or if you aren't totally busy being blown away.

Ah ok. And indeed I will not be bored during the week, I think. Thanks

I did read about that. Thanks for reminding. I just see how the first 24 hours go, however I think the later: totally blown away. Then, when I am back on earth again, I can look at playa info. I really would like to volunteer, interact, meet people, have discussions, enjoy the company etc

Welcome!

My Mom is from Delft and I've now been to the Netherlands twice. It's one of my favorite places in the world! I absolutely love Amsterdam, if I could live there I would. It's so beautiful and everyone is so nice! Even though I'm not from Holland I feel a huge connection to it. I love the Dutch country side, and the food! I think I went to Manneken Pis for fries with mayo every day in Amsterdam, and I love kroketten and stroop waffels! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.....

The second time I went I attended Sensation White and Sensation Black and Dance Valley. Dance Valley was my favorite of the three, but Burning Man is by far my favorite festival (so different from anything else I've experienced). I know you will have such a great time!

Hmmm.... just got an idea for a Playa Pannekoek Haus.... that would be amazing! My Mom has a poffertjes pan, I should totally bring it next year!

Thats awesome that you were able to get a ticket this year!

And having to wait an extra year just makes your first year that much better!!!
Engineer 2012, welcome to eplaya!!!

Here in Colorado, I'm a drafter and Low Voltage Communications system designer. Similar but different to engineering.
As another person that knows a bit about structural engineering I can tell you that you will see some structures/art in BRC that will blow your mind. And make you leave BRC thinking "ya know, the rest of the world could learn a few things from this place"
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole
