opportunity to met Mr Cash when he was

a fine shot of them together, but man,

I was listening to Personal Jesus just a bit ago. Warren Zevon also gave it up last Sunday. http://www.warrenzevon.com/

I saw this video for the first time today... though I'm sure it was quite moving before he passed, it brought me to tears today.

Having thought about it, I decided 'silence' wasn't the right tribute. I'm gonna play I Walk the Line instead. And I'm gonna smile while listening to it.RebA! wrote:A moment of silence for the Man in Black.
Johnny was a ham who just loved an adoring audience, and I'm gonna be one just for him.

A real crossover artist
Few vocal musicians get played at Burning Man with all the electronica, but Cash was one of the few. I suspect every Burning Man I have heard Ring of Fire a few times, for obvious reasons.
And he inspired the tagline I put on my Burning Man T-shirts back in the 90s, "We burned a man near Reno, just to watch him fry!"
I saw a camp had put that phrase on their truck this year.

The Man in Black could be pretty burny. For example there was this, from Sunday Morning Coming Down:
Well I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.
I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and the songs I'd been pickin'
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playin' with a can that he was kicking
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone's fryin' chicken
And it took me back to somethin'
That I'd lost somewhere, somehow along the way.
On a Sunday morning sidewalk
I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin'
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of a sleepin' city sidewalk
And Sunday mornin' comin' down.
In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singin'
Then I headed down the street
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'
And it echoed thru the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
(Written by Kris Kristoffersen though, not by Johnny himself.)

Kinetic
Johnny Cash was the country artist that I first remember hearing as a kid. My parents had all of his records and even 8-tracks back then. I didn't get the meaning to the lyrics but I remember the music as being dark, now that I'm older I truly appreciate what I heard. When they say he was a legend....unlike some who get called that, this time they called it right.

Nobody accomplished more with the few gifts he was given. Johnny had a vocal range narrower than anybody else in the music industry. Yet he had a fifty-year wildly-successful career.
