Burning Man 2010 Vinyl Stickers

This year was mine and my girlfriends' first burn, and i must say, i'm truly glad i got to experience it, and i hope to return every year. As my contribution to the community, I left New Jersey with 300 or so Burning Man 2010 vinyl stickers i made and handed them out to people i came into contact with throughout my week on the playa. My girlfriend also gave out some peace sign based stickers of her design that i made for her. I'm fairly curious as to just where all those stickers ended up. If anyone received one and has a picture of it applied to something, shoot me a pm with a link or i can give you an email address to send to. I must admit i'm a bit ignorant of the rules here on eplaya, but if there's nothing against posting the pics here, feel free to do that also!

Here is my sticker design. They were in various colors including Red,yellow,green,blue,white, and gray.


For the trolls who will inevitably post some B.S. :

I'm just a hobbyist with a small cutter. This isn't a business of mine; i'm not looking to use the pics for any gain. I'd just like to satisfy my own curiosity of how my many hours hunched over the kitchen table weeding 20' runs of vinyl into the late morning the same day my plane left Jersey for L.A. paid off for those who enjoyed my stickers. Thanks!

We can post pictures here...you're not selling them...the rules are sticky to me sometimes...you can recommend products but not your own (I'm fairly sure that's considered commodification) but pictures and products that would answer my question about how you made them...that would be helpful and cool!

Hey moonrise, glad to hear you liked it. As far as how i made them, i actually purchased a 24" vinyl cutter/plotter on ebay a few years ago. Bought the cutter, a few rolls of vinyl, some application tape and tools and just started playing around and teaching myself.Having a little experience with Adobe Illustrator was very helpful. It was intended to be another source of income in my spare time. I planned on making some decals and selling them on ebay and what not. Well, long story short, i never did get around to it making money off of it, and usually just made decals for friends and family. So, when my girlfriend and i decided we were going to go to BM i started thinking about gifts, and being un-employed and, well....broke...., and already having a few rolls of vinyl collecting dust, the one thing i could contribute without spending any money was stickers. If you're really interested in the creation of vinyl decals, i could post some pictures of the process. It's not all that exciting, but it's cool a hobby. It can be time consuming, tedious, and sometimes frustrating, but i enjoy it.

Looking forward to some moonshine flambe bacon if i can make it out there next year. I'll be sure to bring along some stickers for your camp.

Since hers didn't have the year in it and she didn't *have* to get rid of them all like i did, she was a little more selective in handing them out, so she still has a big bag of these that she's saving to hand out again next year.

Nice! You two dun good!.....I think there was a satelite photo taken of a peace sign made of people, 2010, gathering around the man...there's a thread here showing it. I'm fairly sure it is real (the photo looked color enhnaced, maybe for effect?)....the Girl Freind would've been completely cleaned out if she had brought them there!

There was also a google statelite picture taken at 11:41 on Tuesday or Thursday, the date/time was listed incorrectly. I'm not sure which is the correct day...they only allow zooming in so close (google)...our camp was a recognizeable dot.

Handmade gifts are the best!...btw, you don't have to stick to the theme...I like the man and more fire, more flames! Those would be hot for back East!

Oh uh, I use everclear, 151 proof for the flambe bacon...it's getting harder and harder to find the 190 proof stuff and it's Nevada for petes sake...I heard they brew *moonshine* here n there...hahaha...I have the flambe bacon down to an art and it'll give ya a buzzzz trick is NOT to catch the fat on ~fiya~ and then scramble eggs into the fat and booze...cures a mild hangover (redbull for them nasty ones) I did this at a different camp than my own, they totally dug it

I own a small art biz, if you ever try to sell again remember the 80/20 rule...20% of your buyers buy 80% of your products...I made 5k off just one sale last year using that theory. (it went to the bankerman fast) I've been selling art for about 15 years, as one of my many gigs...try going to businesses and asking what they want and maybe do a custom order. Just a thought, or just enjoy the unemployment and go fishin' between job hunts. Better yet, move to Tahoe, transfer your unemployment from NJ and ski bum it! A studio is about $700 max here and it's an awesome place...we refer to Lake Too-High as the Big Blue Playa and close to BRC! ~)'(~ I prefer to say low on dough rather than broke...everyone is low on dough in Tahoe, never broke...that scares everyone (got some spange?, uh no...got some yard work you can do though) Ski areas and Casinos FINALLY stopped importing workers from other countries...everyone threw a fit and they listened.

hah, i'll see what i can do. I checked out your "home" via the previous year's threads (thanks for the tip Moonrise); very cool! I'm sorry i wasn't aware of it while i was out there. We would have loved to swing by and drop-off/adopt some art. Its seems our last minute decision to attend this year's event for the first time left us ill informed of things like this. We missed out on a lot of things that i'm just now finding via this forum. But, there's always next year! Thanks for chiming in and bringing your home to my attention!.... else i may have missed out next year too.

I do NOT like that adage "burningman isn't for eveyone" what's that? Makes people doubt they will like it! Also maybe come less prepped, some do not even know eplaya exists and other online live help!
That adage may deter some from coming at all! Meh, it's on the main website I think...so a bmorg thing. Rarely do I hear with TRUTH anyone say they didn't like. Maybe people who cannot deal with camping.

I did have the luxury of a LOT of time to read up here and I know various burners but I still couldn't remember to go to HFWA...acually I did but no wonder I had a little trouble finding the place...it was written (I think) that they sort of were hard to find for quietness reasons....semi hidden or had the road diverted or something.

And get this I JUST missed AntiM by 3 minutes!!!! Someone told me at a Camp I was checking out...more excuses, excuses..hahaha.

The Home did well this year, we had many good donations although my own originals were thinner than usual.

I like to joke we have a gift shop now, so stickers would be perfect for that. We did tshirts, bags and bandannas, with a simple logo. Stickers would be one more cool thing to give away!

lol. We certainly didn't lack preparation,that's for sure, at least not on the self-reliance aspect. I read the guide at least a dozen times, and searched for other people's packing lists and tips. I made sure we had what we needed...and then some. Next year we'll bring half as much food, water, supplies....just about everything. Except for the tent....we'll need about twice as much as what we brought. My girlfriend thought we were getting a great deal on a tent on craigslist....When i took it out of the box and realized 3/4 of it was mesh i knew exactly what we were in for, thanks to my pre-burn research. I'm not sure how it's possible, but i'm pretty sure there was more dust INSIDE my tent than outside. heh. I won't make that mistake again. lol. Oh, and stickers....i'll need to bring more of those too .
Where we were 'naked',however, was in the knowledge of what to actually do when we got out there. I feel like we missed out on so much, simply because i didn't know it was there. Neither of us knew anyone that had gone before, nor did we have time to come on here to make some friends first, so it was a bit overwhelming and maybe a bit intimidating when we got out there, set up camp, looked at each other and said "what now?", lol.
Anyway, even though we wish we'd done more, we still had an incredible time and want to do it again....just... better, next time around. Honestly, I was a little too apprehensive about diving in and going with the flow and was very skeptical of the people out there and the interactions i'd have with people that it held us back from really experiencing everything. I regret not being able to let go of my "default world" programming completely, but , what can ya do? it's a tough transition and a lot to take in. But i now know how to do it right next time around and i'm really looking forward to that.By the end of the burn i, too had some hope about life that wasn't there before and a more positive outlook on things in general. I have a lot of respect for the ideas surrounding BM and the people that share those ideas. When i arrived on the playa i felt like an outsider.....and that feeling continued for most of the week, which was really my own fault. But by the last day, i finally 'got it'. I felt more like a member of the community, and less like a spectator. Just wish it hadn't been the last day. I was just getting started, and it was ending. That's quite disappointing, but i've just got to chalk it up as a valuable life experience and build off of it next year.

Glad to hear it did well! It's an awesome idea and i'd love to be able to contribute. As long as i'm in decent enough financial shape to afford to come next year, you can count on some stickers! Does the home have it's own logo? or did u just have BM logos on things in the "gift shop" ?

I was born in NYC raised in L A and NYC ...I don't exactly like cities..Metropolis was odd for me in a strange way...I loved seeing it burn down!

I did see the godzilla thing in your thread. i could certainly incorporate that into some stickers next year! I believe you had the "rising sun" design in the stencil with godzilla that someone made.Love it. I've actually done the rising sun design in vinyl before. Pretty much anything that can be used as a stencil can easily be done in vinyl. And of course,as long as i can make the journey, i'll be whipping up something with the Man, hopefully every year.

I haven't gotten there yet, no. I'm quite interested though. Between my girlfriend sewing up some custom fur coats for us (they were great on the super cold nights!) , and myself wiring up remote controlled, battery powered lighting in our "Monkey Hut" as well as learning the more frustrating aspects of EL wire and bike decoration, we'd probably both enjoy the C&C thread. Thanks for another great tip!

I'll be bringing printed stuff too, I am going to be doing some art on screen prints, I have some ideas and mock up templates ready. These will be hand made, probably one color (maybe I'll get into multi color, not sure yet) one at a time so I won't be able to bring thousands of shirts, etc, but I hope to have at least a hundred or so. I will make it a point to find AnitM's home. I haven't read the threads on it yet but the name has intrigued me since I landed here.

Ranger Genius, who camps with me, does an annual print. He started with one color and has moved up. They are best if you can mount them on a piece of matte so they hold up to travel and wind and hippie backpacks. You can buy scraps at a frame shop pretty cheap. He shrink wraps his, we found a good used machine. LOL, the wrap shrinks even more in the desert, which was funny.

Lol, me too! When i started this thread i didn't expect to meet such a cool group of people through it. Honestly, I didn't really expect anyone to respond. Thought it'd just go unnoticed and get lost in the sea of old threads. I'm glad to see people are interested in this stuff and have taken the time to swing by and chime in with some ideas, tips,kudos, etc. lol

Awesome! Screen printing is another thing i've always been interested in and considered getting into, just never have. Had a class back in high school where we made our own design and then screens and then made a shirt. i loved it. I used to frequent Shirt.woot (are you familiar?) and do the t-shirt contest once in awhile also. Maybe next year you and i could trade skills for our art? wouldn't mind having some t-shirts of my next design to gift, or even just have it screened onto some paper+mounted as AnitM mentioned as a souvenir for myself.

D'oh, I am so not awake this morning. RG does woodblock prints and we've been using our silkscreen for fabric. Next step is paper art prints, a combination of the two.
