I have also read the burners throw things into the fire..so Im thinking that I can throw in my clothes.....lol...that are ruined with playa dust...
please correct me gently if Im wrong...LOL
also my last trip to USA was very good for me ( I grew into ME basically) and let go of a lot of shit and hang ups...so this trip will be a celebration of ME..Iv written a letter to my old self( geez this is personal..lol) and I want to burn that letter at BM...

LL..
I think you may be confusing the temple burn with the man burn.
The man burn is on Saturday night, and that is much more of a party/spectator sport. You can't get anywhere close to it, as it's a huge structure that will come crashing down.
Now, the temple burn on Sunday night.. that is the more personal and reflective burn. For that, you have all week long to gather yourself at the temple and leave what you want burnt.. whether that be a message written on it, a note, etc ect. That is the more personal, releasing burn.
Is that what you are referring to?

They do let the crowd up to the man flames once the structure is down. Very dangerous to try and toss things in given the size of the fire and the crush of the crowd. Plenty of people do so anyway. I'm usually headed the other direction when the perimeter falls.
The Temple Burn is indeed a burn where you can leave things to be consumed by the flames. I left my cancer letter there, and tributes to my brothers.
There are several community burn pyres, but clothes? Euw unless they burn well and clean. There is always some asshat who tries to burn a couch. Asshat, I say!

Yeah, put that in the Temple some day before they burn it. That's one of the things the Temple is for. That whole weekend, you can let your old self go, consumed in the fire of the Man on Saturday and wafted away on the wings of tears on Sunday. Ave atque vale, as we say so often in Texas. Ave atque vale.

I used to put a lot of meaning behind the burn, but now man burn is just a huge bon fire to me.
Much of the aura it used to have to me is long gone for several reasons. I have seen the man behind the curtain - I have a blast every year and will until my rotting corpse is found by DPW on playa dead from old age.

Silly me, I thought "burn night" was the night they burned the man. So, personally, I don't burn anything; I just go watch the man burn.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

I burn the candle at both ends.
I got some wood from the Temple to write little thoughts and resentments on & to burn in the Temple. I went back out to throw them in before the burn, but found the Temple roped off. So I took the pieces of wood back to camp and threw them in our burn barrel. I really don't think it matters where you burn things. Although I still carry those resentments. Hmmm...

Re: What do You Burn on Burn night?
I was wondering the same thing. I've heard many interesting stories. I'm wondering the benefits of being up close to the benefits of being further away. Is there a major stampede when they allow you to get closer to the pile of burning man.LoveLight wrote:just wondering........
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.
